Periyar University MBA and MCA Admissions 2020: Courses, Application Form, Entrance Exam, Selection

Periyar University is accepting applications for admission to MBA & MCA  programs upto October 17, 2020. Applicants must send their applications to their respective Department HODs on or before the application deadline. The admission process for 2020 has been delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions across the country.

Periyar University annually invites applications from eligible candidates for admission to MBA and MCA Program offered by the university. One must be a graduate with a minimum of 50% of marks to apply for the courses.

Admission to both the programs is through TANCET. 

To apply for TANCET candidates must pay the registration fee INR. 500/- (INR. 250/- for reserved category candidates) through online transactions.

Candidates seeking admission in MCA at Periyar University must pay INR. 500/- as application fee. MBA aspirants must submit INR. 750/- as application fees.

The application forms can be either be obtained directly from the university or can also be downloaded from the official website of the university. The application fees must be paid via a Demand Draft drawn in the favor of The Registrar at Periyar University.

Admission will be solely based on the candidate's performance in the respective TANCET exam.

Application Process

TANCET Application Process

Candidates have to submit only one application for the Entrance Test for MBA & MCA Programmes.

The candidates have to pay a fee of INR. 500/- (INR. 250/- for SC/SCA/ST Candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu on the production of a copy of Permanent Community Certificate) as entrance test fee for any one of the Programmes, either MBA or MCA.

If a candidate desires to appear for more than one program, for every additional program, he/she has to pay INR.500/-(INR.250/- for SC/ST Candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu) along with the filled-in application

Registration for TANCET test

The candidates can register for the entrance test in any one of the modes given below

  • The candidates can register through the official TANCET website.
  • The candidates must create their login credentials.
  • Proceed to fill up the application form.
  • The candidates must verify the details.
  • Submit the same along with the registration fees.

Periyar University Application Process:

Once the candidate has appeared for TANCET, then they will need to apply to the university.

The university application process is pretty simple. The application process for Periyar University is pretty much the same as for the TANCET.

The application form along with the prospectus can be obtained in two different ways:

  • It can be downloaded from the official website of the university (Copies of downloaded application form will be accepted, as well)
  • Obtain it directly from the university


  1. Candidates are advised to go through Periyar University Admission Prospectus prior to filling up their application forms.
  2. It is also advised to try filling up a Xerox copy of the application form, in order to eradicate any trace of error while filling up the Periyar University MBA/MCA Application Form.
  3. The form must be complete in all aspects, incomplete applications forms will not be accepted.
  4. For every additional program applied, the application fee should be paid separately along with a separate application form.
  5. You will also need to attach self-attested copies of Mark Sheets of the qualifying degree examination along with the application form. If you completed your qualifying degree or bachelor’s degree from a different university (Other than Periyar University), then you will also need to submit their eligibility certificate, which can be obtained from Periyar University.

Following is a list of documents that one needs to submit along with the application form:

  • Self-attested mark sheets of qualifying degree examinations (Bachelor’s degree)
  • Eligibility Certificate (If applicable)
  • Community Certificate (If applicable)
  • A self – addressed stamped envelope (28 x 13 cm) for INR.10/-

Mode of Payment:

Application fee /Registration fee should be paid only by Demand Draft (DD) or by Challan made in favor of The Registrar, Periyar University, Salem-11.

SC/ST candidates are exempted from the payment of the Application/Registration fee for anyone of the program.

Completely filled-in application forms must be sent to the respective Head of Department, Periyar University, Periyar Palkai Nagar, Salem – 636011.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Any graduate with 50% of marks (45% in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) is eligible for admission.
  • The candidates can seek admission through MAT/CAT/TANCET scores, group discussion, personal interview and academic score in the UG program.

Reservation Criteria

Periyar University complies with the reservation criteria laid down by the Government of Tamil Nadu and MHRD, Government of India. So, here are a few points to remember by candidates looking to take up admission to PG Programs offered by Periyar University:

  • A total of 15% of seats has been on a supernumerary basis for foreign nationals (including NRIs) in all the PG programs.
  • Foreign nationals including NRIs with valid Passports and Visas issued by the Government of India and refugees will be considered for admission subject to their eligibility in terms of schooling and qualifying examinations passed.
  • Candidates from other states (except SC/ST) will be considered for selection under the General Category only.
  • Communal Roaster system would also taken into consideration, as the university follows reservation criteria laid by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Selection Process

Candidates will be selected on the basis of their performance in the Entrance Test conducted by the respective departments.

Candidates who possess a qualifying score in TANCET/MAT/CAT will be exempted from the Entrance Test. But they will have to appear for the Interview and Group Discussion.

TANCET Exam Pattern

The TANCET exam will comprise of the following MCA topics:

  • Quantitative Ability
  • Analytical Reasoning
  • Logical Reasoning
  • Computer Awareness

A few questions may also be on verbal activity, basic science, etc.

TANCET MBA Exam broadly covers the following areas:

  • Analysis of Business Situations
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Quantitative Ability
  • Data Sufficiency
  • English Usage

The exam has a total of 100 questions, each question carries 1 mark. 1/3rd of a mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.

The duration of the exam is 2 hours.

The university will shortlist the candidates as per its own selection criteria based on the candidate’s performance in the Interview and the Group Discussion.
