CMR University (CMRU) is a private university in the state of Karnataka, established and governed by the CMR University Act-2013. The School of Research and Innovation invites applications for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme in various disciplines for the academic year 2019-20. The programme is for a minimum of 3 years duration. It is available for both full time and part time Ph.D. programmes with different specialisations. The admission is through an Entrance Test followed by a Personal Interview. The duly filled in Application form must be submitted by February 15, 2019 (tentative).

M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts , M.Phil/Ph.D in Commerce & M.Phil/Ph.D in Management

Ph.D. Programme (Full Time Regular/Part Time External)

The University offers the Ph.D. programme in the following disciplines for both full time and part time:

Ph.D. Programme (Part Time External only)

The University offers the Ph.D. programme in the following disciplines for part time only:

  • Law
  • Education
  • Engineering and Technology
  • Sciences
  • Humanities
  • Interdisciplinary


You should have a post-graduation/ master’s degree from any recognized University in India or abroad recognized by the Equivalence Committee of CMR University. The CMR University recognizes CA from The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and CMA from The Institute of Cost Accountants of India for the purpose of registering for Ph.D. in Commerce and Allied discipline.

  • For admission in Engineering & Technology and Management disciplines, you should have a minimum of 60% in aggregate for general category and 55% for SC/ST category, or equivalent CGPA.
  • For other disciplines, you should have minimum of 55% of marks in aggregate for general category and 50% for SC/ST category, or equivalent CGPA (except in engineering and management subjects).

Application Process

M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts , M.Phil/Ph.D in Management & M.Phil/Ph.D in Commerce

There is a common Application Form for both full time and part time Ph.D. Programmes:

Step 1: You can download the Application Form either online through the University website, or directly from the Admissions Office of the CMR University.

Step 2: Take a print out of the Application Form if downloaded online. Fill up the form with the required details and also select your choice of Ph.D. specialisation.

Step 3: Affix a passport size photograph in the space provided.

Step 4: You must pay the Application fee of Rs. 1250 in the form of cash (if submitting in person) or by a Demand Draft drawn in favour of CMR University payable at Bangalore.

Step 5: You should attach the following list of enclosures:

  • Class 10th and 12th mark sheets
  • Graduation and Post-graduation mark sheets (all semesters/years)
  • Degree Certificate
  • Post-graduate degree certificate
  • Transfer Certificate
  • Migration Certificate
  • Caste Certificate (if applicable only)
  • Conduct certificate
  • M.Phil. mark sheet and certificate
  • Photos : Passport & Stamp size (4 each)
  • For NRI / Foreign students only: Certificate obtained from the Board Studied last, Visa, Passport, Equivalence certificate from AIU
  • Detailed resume (3 sets)
  • Relevant documents if you are a NET/SET/SLET/GATE qualified candidate

Selection Process

M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts , M.Phil/Ph.D in Commerce & M.Phil/Ph.D in Management

You will be selected on the basis of an Entrance Test followed by a Personal Interview. The final results will be once your marks obtained in the postgraduate examination, entrance examination and personal interview are consolidated.

Entrance Test:

The examination consists of two papers. Paper 1 is General Aptitude & Research Methodology and Paper 2 is a domain-specific subject as studied at the postgraduate level. Both papers consist of 60 multiple-choice questions and the time allotted for each paper will be one hour each.

Exemptions: You will be exempted from writing the test if either:

  • You have qualified UGC/CSIR NET (JRF), SET/SLET, GATE or any other examination considered equivalent by AIU; or
  • You possess an M. Phil Degree from a recognized University as per UGC regulations, 2009

Personal Interview:

If you are shortlisted after the Entrance Exam, you will be called for an Interview conducted by the Research Admission Committee.


The reservation policy is as per the norms prescribed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
