CMR University Ph.D. Admissions 2020: Dates, Eligibility, Admission Process

CMR University provides research and doctoral programs in various disciplines. Candidates who wish to pursue research in their subject can apply for the same on the official website. CMR UniversitySchool of Research and Innovation invites applications for admission to Ph.D courses in the month of December. The minimum duration of Ph.D program is 3 years. CMR University offers Ph.D program in both full time and part time mode with different specializations.

Admission to the Ph.D. program is offered on the basis of entrance exam and following Personal Interview. UGC NET/Teacher Fellowship holder or candidates who have passed M.Phil. (Full Time/Part Time) or any other examination considered equivalent by the Admissions Committee are exempted from Ph.D entrance exam. Check CMR University Admission 2020.

Application Process

There is a common Application Form for both full time and part time Ph.D. Programmes. Candidates can download the Application Form either online through the University website, or directly from the Admissions Office of the CMR University. 

After, filling the application form successfully take a print out of the Application Form ( when downloaded online). Affix a passport size photograph in the space provided and pay an Application fee of Rs. 1250 in the form of cash (if submitting in person) or by a Demand Draft drawn in favour of CMR University payable at Bangalore.

Eligibility Criteria

Ph.D. Programme (Full Time Regular/Part Time External)

The University offers the Ph.D. program in the following disciplines in both full time and part time:

Ph.D. Programme (Part Time External only)

The University offers the Ph.D. program in the following disciplines in part-time only:

  • Law
  • Education
  • Engineering and Technology
  • Sciences
  • Humanities
  • Interdisciplinary


Candidate should have a post-graduation/ master’s degree from any recognized University in India or abroad, recognized by the Equivalence Committee of CMR University. The CMR University recognizes CA from The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and CMA from The Institute of Cost Accountants of India for the purpose of registering for Ph.D. in Commerce and Allied discipline.

  • For admission in Engineering & Technology and Management disciplines, the applicant should have a minimum of 60% in aggregate for general category and 55% for SC/ST category, or equivalent CGPA.
  • For other disciplines, you should have a minimum of 55% of marks in aggregate for general category and 50% for SC/ST category, or equivalent CGPA (except in engineering and management subjects).


Selection Process

Candidates will be selected on the basis of an Entrance Test followed by a Personal Interview. The final results will be released after the consolidation of marks obtained in the postgraduate examination, entrance examination, and personal interview.

Entrance Test:

The examination consists of two papers. Paper 1 is General Aptitude & Research Methodology and Paper 2 is a domain-specific subject as studied at the postgraduate level. Both papers consist of 60 multiple-choice questions and the time allotted for each paper will be one hour each.

Exemptions: Candidates with the following qualifications are exempted from giving the entrance exam.

  • UGC/CSIR NET (JRF), SET/SLET, GATE or any other examination considered equivalent by AIU; or
  •  M. Phil Degree from a recognized University as per UGC regulations, 2009

Personal Interview:

Those candidates who got shortlisted in the Entrance Exam will be called for Interview by the Research Admission Committee.
