Defence Institute of Advanced Technology(DIAT) – Deemed to be University is the premier Technological University of Dept. of Defence R&D / DRDO – Ministry of Defence – Govt. of India. It is engaged in imparting technical education, in niche areas at PG (M.Tech) & Ph. D levels over the last 60 years, in its various forms & capacities. DIAT has been awarded various Education Excellence Awards.

The uniqueness of DIAT is that fresh students have an opportunity to interact with service officers who are doing their M. Tech. and share their field experience with them. The students have an opportunity to visit DRDO laboratories & get opportunity to listen and interact with scientists engaged in various disciplines carrying out state of art, Research & Development.

The University invites applications for admission to its M.Tech. Programme in various specialisations for the academic year. The M.Tech. Programme is a two-year course which begins in the first week of July.

Eligibility Criteria


You should have a minimum of 55% aggregate marks or 5.5 CGPA in BE/B. Tech. in related discipline or M.Sc. in the same/related discipline with valid GATE Score.

Age (For all courses): You should not be more than 26 years of age as on July 1. However, there is no age limit for sponsored category.

Nationality (For all courses): You should be an Indian citizen.

How to apply?


You should apply online though the official website of the Institute. You should apply separately if you seek admission to more than one programme.

Application fee:

  • Rs.500 for general category
  • Rs. 250 for SC, ST, Women, PWD and OBC candidates

You should pay the fee either online or by Demand Draft drawn in favour of Vice Chancellor, DIAT, Pune, payable at Pune.

The application has to be uploaded on the website after filling all the information.

You should take a print out of the Application Acknowledgement generated by the system after upload of application.

You should then send the hard copy of the Application Acknowledgement along with the DD drawn/proof of online payment and with the self-certified copies of mark lists, certificates and other testimonials, in a sealed envelope super scribed with the name of M. Tech Program to:

These documents should reach DIAT latest by April 29, 2019 (tentative). Application will be processed only on receipt of the acknowledgement with DD.

Selection Process


Your selection will be made directly based on your GATE score. Admission to a specialization shall be made based on separate GATE discipline-wise merit list.

For Scholarship Category

Your selection will be done directly based on the performance at common all-India competitive test such as GATE or, based on GATE, and Interview with due weight age (80% on GATE score and 20% on interview) with due approval of Vice Chancellor.


For MOD (Services & DRDO) Sponsored Category

Your selection will be done through Research & Training (R&T) and Postgraduate Training (PGT) schemes for DRDO and Tri-service officers including Coast Guard respectively. These admissions shall be operated jointly by DIAT and RAC/DRDO (through DHRD/DRDO).


For Sponsored Category

You will be selected through your employer and subject to meeting certain additional conditions, through a separate selection committee appointed specifically for the purpose. You are also exempted from qualifying GATE requirement.

Reservation Criteria

DIAT follows the reservation policy of Govt. of India as applicable to Higher Educational Institutions for reservation of seats for SC, ST, OBC and PWD candidates.
