Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU) PG Admissions 2020: Entrance Exam, Result, Fees

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU) was established in Tamil Nadu on September 7, 1990 with an aim to cater to the needs of a University and affiliating body for the southern most provinces of tamilnadu, i.e. Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, and Kanyakumari. There are 24 academic departments in the university which offer Part-time, Full-time Postgraduate, M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes in various disciplines. The university also has 61 affiliated college, 5 Mano Colleges and 1 constituent college. 

The basic eligibiltiy for admission to PG programs at MSU is that a candidate must have an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. The University gives due weightage to marks scored in the undergraduate program while considering a candidate for admission.

The application process for PG programs begins in the month of May. The University accepts only those students who qualify an entrance exam held by the Unoiversity. The entrance xam is held in the month of June. Check MSU Admission

How To Apply

The application from for PG courses at MSU is available for download on the official website. Before applying to the PG programs at University, a candidate must go through the eligibility criteria for the same. 

Candidates applying to courses offered by Manonmaniam Sundaranar University must go through the prospectus and read carefully the details about the course. The application form must be filled in by the candidate themselves in their own handwriting. The candidate must also sign on the photo pasted and get it attested by a gazetted officer. 

The candidate needs to send a  demand draft or SBI challan – Power Jothi Scheme (DD& CE A/c. No. 32723644765 drawn in the favor of “The Registrar, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli”)  for 650 INR payable at Tirunelveli, Tamilnadu along with the filled-in application form. Apart from the Demand Draft/SBI Challan, a candidate also needs to send self-attested xerox copies and original copy of the following certificates to the University (the original certificates will be returned after the verification):

  1. Secondary School Leaving Certificate
  2. 10+2 Mark sheet
  3. UG degree mark statement
  4. UG degree Provisional certificate/original degree or diploma. Candidates appearing in their final year/semester exam need to submit their mark statement till V semester and a course certificate issued by the Principal.
  5. PG degree certificate if applicable.
  6. Transfer Certificate
  7. Community Certificate for SC/ST/BC/BCM/MBC/DNC candidates only
  8. Conduct Certificate
  9. Sports Certificate if the candidate is an outstanding sports person.
  10. NSS certificate in case the candidate is the best NSS volunteer.
  11. Differently Abled Certificate, if applying under the Differently abled category.

The candidate should send the filled in application form along with the xerox copies of the certificates mentioned above and DD/SBI challan to the Head of the concerned department

MSU offers a total of 5 post-graduate courses in the Arts stream. The Course-wise eligibility for each course is explained below:

MA TamilAn undergraduate degree in Literature or an Undergraduate degree in any stream with Tamil as one of the subjects of study in Part I from a recognized University.
MA EnglishAn undergraduate degree in any stream with English as one of the subject of study in part II from a recognized University.
MA History (TM – Tamil Medium EM – English Medium)An undergraduate degree in any discipline (except for Literature) from a recognized University in India.

MA Sociology

MA Economics 

An undergraduate degree in any discipline from a recognized University.

Reservation Criteria

MSU abides by the reservation rules prescribed by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The category-wise reservation policy is explained below:

Admission Process

MSU offers admission to the PG programs on the basis of marks scored in the qualifying examination and university-held entrance examination. The weightage given to marks scored in Qualifying Examination and Entrance Examination is 50:50.

The entrance examination will be based on the undergraduate syllabus in the relevant discipline. The result will be declared within a fortnight of the exam. Candidates selecetde for admission will be informed individually through mail or memo. 

Candidates selected for admission will have to submit their original certificates at the time of admission. The list of documents is as follows:

  1. Secondary School LEaving Certificate
  2. 10+2 mark sheet
  3. UG Degree mark statement
  4. Degree Provivional Certificate or Original Degree or Diploma
  5. Candidates awaiting their final result need to submit their mark statement up to V Semester and the course certificate issued by the Principal
  6. PG Mark sheet/degree certificate (if applicable)
  7. Transfer Certificate

  9. Conduct Certificate
