Candidate with a Master's Degree in Economics/Agricultural Economics/Population Studies/Law and Economics/Public Policy/Sociology with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/VJNT/DTNT) from a recognized Institution are eligible. 

Admission to the course will be based on the entrance examination conducted by GIPE on December 14.

M.phil degree holders and UGC-NET/JRF/SET qualifiers will be Exempted from Written Exam.

The last date of application submission is November 20. Application form for the entrance examination can be downloaded from the official website of the institution. Application fee should be paid through Demand Draft of INR 3000/- (INR 1500/- for Reserved Category & Candidate belonging to Maharashtra).

  • Visit the link
  • Download the Application form.
  • Fill General Informations including valid Mobile number and EMail-ID.
  • Enter Academic Qualifications.
  • Mention subject of Ph.D.
  • Draw a Demand Draft in favor of Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics of INR 3000/-(unreserved category)& INR 1500/-(unreserved category/resident of Maharashtra).
  • Post the Application Form and D.D. along with the Self Attested required Documents.

  • Matriculation Certificate
  • Government authorised photo ID proof as PAN Card/AADHAR Card/Passport/Driving License.
  • Graduation marks sheet
  • Transfer Certificate
  • Migration Certificate (if applied)
  • Domicile of Reserved applicant of Maharashtra.

Eligibility Criteria

Post-Graduate Degree in Economics/Agricultural Economics/Population Studies/Law and Economics/Public Policy/Sociology with minimum 55%marks (unreserved candidates) & 50%(reserved candidates/resident of Maharashtra) from a recognised University is the eligibility criteria.


50% Reservation is for students belonging to the Backward Castes/Tribes followed up by the students having domicile of Maharashtra.

Rest of the seats are Unreserved and can increase in case of seats in the reserved category remained unoccupied.

Admission Process

Selection will be entirely based on the Written Entrance Exam and Interview.

Exemption from the Written Test-

  • M.Phil Degree of a recognised University (Not through Distance Education).
  • Qualified at the UGC-NET/JRF/SLET/teacher fellowship holders.

Qualified candidates of Written Test and candidates who are exempted from the Written Test shall be required to appear for an interview to present/discuss their research proposal/area of interest.

  • Merit list will have the names of admitted students with Provisional Registration.
  • Provisional Registration shall be confirmed upon successful completion of the prescribed pre-Ph.D course work.
