Shivaji University M.Phil & Ph.D Admission 2020: Entrance Exam, Eligibility, Application Form

Shivaji University offers M.Phil and Ph.D Research Programs. At the University M. Phil is offered in 118 specializations and Ph.D program is offered 120 specializations.

Application to Shivaji University can be made online on the official website of the Unversity by sending a research proposal describing research interest. Selection for research programmes is made on the basis of entrance test followed by an interview. There is also a relaxation for those candidates who have qualified UGC-CSIR-NET / SLET / SET / GATE /P.G.D.T.E./ BET/GPAT exams. Such candidates are required only to appear for the interview.

In interview, candidates are required to discuss their research proposal with the panel constituted by the University. The entrance test will be based on the syllabus of post graduation courses except for engineering students.

For Engineering students syllabus of GATE will be considered in the exam. A final merit list will be prepared for selecting candidates for which 50% marks of qualifying exams, 40% marks scored in entrance test and 10% marks of entrance test will be considered. Check Shivaji University Admission

How To Apply

  • Application forms for M.Phill and Ph.D programs are available in online mode only.
  • Entrance examination fee for each subject is INR 200 which is to be submitted in the form of a Demand Draft drawn in favour of Finance and Accounts Officer, Shivaji University, Kolhapur.
  • Filled in application form along with the Demand Draft is to be submitted to the concerned department either by post/courier or by person.
  • Candidates can also avail the copy of course directory by paying a sum of INR 100 to the University in form of cash or Demand Draft drawn in favour of Finance and Accounts Officer, Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

Key Notes

  • If there are less than 10 candidates allotted to an examination center then that center is subjected to cancellation and information regarding this will be made available on the University website.
  • Applications are accepted after the last date of submission with a late fee of INR 100.
  • There is also a provision to the accepted application form with a super late fee of INR 500.

  • Copy of professional experience and published research work wherever necessary.
  • If the course directory is demanded through post then a sum of INR 30 extra is to be paid by the candidates.

Duration: 2 years

Eligibility: Candidates are required to have done a Master’s degree in arts/commerce or M.Sc./B.Tech in relevant specialization from any recognized University to be eligible for the M.Phil. Program.

Admission Process

  • Selection to Ph.D. and M.Phil courses are made on the basis of Entrance test followed by an interview. The question paper of Entrance test will contain 50 MCQs of 2 marks each.  The duration of the exam will be of one and half hour.
  • Examination is conducted in both online and offline mode. The pattern for the entrance test will be strictly based on the syllabus of the post graduation program.
  • On the basis of this entrance test, a merit list will be prepared for conducting the interview. In interview, candidates are required to discuss the area of research.
  • A final merit list will be prepared for selection on the basis of marks scored in the qualifying exam, entrance test and interview. 50% marks of qualifying exam, 40% marks of entrance test and 10% of the interview will be considered to form a merit list for selecting candidates.


  1. Candidates who have qualified GATE /UGC-CSIR-NET / SLET / SET /P.G.D.T.E./ BET/GPAT are exempted from appearing in the entrance test and they only need to appear in the interview.
  2. Candidates who want to do research in engineering and technology, entrance test pattern for them will be based on GATE syllabus.


  • Apart from the different schemes for scholarships provided by the government authorities, University has its own provision to provide scholarship to deserving candidates. 
  • University releases about 500 scholarships of INR 5000 and INR 10000 which is given to deserving candidates enrolled with the University under the scheme of Shivaji University Merit Scholarship Scheme (SUMS).
