Mumbai University (MU) was the oldest University which was established in 1857 and located at Mumbai, Maharashtra and one of the first three universities in India.  Several private colleges in and around Mumbai are affiliated to MU. It has established its name in industrial & International collaborations and runs various professional courses. At national level, it has excelled in sports, cultural and out-reach activities. Mumbai University was accorded 5 star status in 2001 & 'A' grade status in April 2012 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It has been granted University with Potential for Excellence (UPE) status by UGC and PURSE Scheme by DST.

In the last five years, it has seen a 104% increase in undergraduate students. The University of Mumbai is one of the largest universities in the world in terms of the number of students. More than eighty of its teachers are on various professional bodies. Moreover, eighteen National/International awards have been won by the teachers in the last five years.

The University invites applications for various postgraduate courses for the academic year 2020. These courses are offered in the Faculty of Arts, Science, Commerce, Performing Arts and Fine Arts. The postgraduate courses are full time and of two years duration. The applications for the programmes are available on the University website and after the online submission must be submitted to the respective colleges.

Eligibility Criteria

M.A.

You should be a graduate in any discipline from any recognized University.

M.Ed.

Any person who has passed the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Education from MU or any other university recognized as equivalent with a minimum of 45% (40% for reserved categories) may be admitted to the Degree of Master of Arts in Education.

Selection Process

If your Bachelor’s degree is in the same course in which you are seeking admission, with 6 papers in that subject, you will be admitted on the basis of merit. If it is 3 papers, you will have to appear for an Interview.

 If you have done your Bachelor’s in a subject other than the one you are seeking admission in, you will be selected on the basis of a written test consisting of 2 papers in the subject in which you desire to register for your M.A. degree. Paper 1 will be an essay paper in the subject, and Paper 2 shall be a paper to test your general acquaintance with the subject.

How to apply?

You should log on to the official website of the University and select the link for “Pre- Admission Online Registration” provided on upper right corner of the home page.

You should then click on “Apply Online” and register yourself by entering your authentic details in the relevant fields and click on “Register”.

You will receive a verification code and a link on your mobile through SMS in some time. You must log in with your verification code, enter all the specific particulars on the online application form.

You should attach your recent passport size color photograph of dimensions 35mm x 45 mm with a minimum 72 to maximum 150 DPI resolution.

Registration Fee: You should pay the Registration fee of Rs. 100 through a Demand Draft in favour of “The Finance and Accounts Officer, University of Mumbai” payable at Mumbai.

You should then submit the Application online.

Once you fill the Application Form successfully and apply, you will have to submit/send the print out of the Application Form along with necessary documents to every course-college separately for which you have applied.

Enclosures: You will have to attach the following documents with your Application at the time of sending the hard copy:

  • Mark sheet and Degree Certificate
  • Caste Certificate (if applicable)
  • Two photos
  • Eligibility Certificate (if applicable)

For Eligibility Certificate (If applicable): You will be required to attach the Eligibility certificate if you are from a University other than the Mumbai University.

You must approach the Registrar of the University or any of its constituent colleges and obtain the Eligibility Certificate for the following fees paid in cashRs. 220 if you are from universities in Maharashtra

Rs. 320 if you are from other University (other than Maharashtra state)

You will be required to attach this along with your Application Form at the time of the final admission.

Hi Dinesh, admission process for this course is expected to start in Aug, 2020. Yes, you are eligible for this course provided you have scored at least 50% in your graduation degree. Final selection of the candidates will rely on merit/entrance exam subjected to the availability of seats.

Hi Anushka, candidates who have done graduation in any stream are considered eligible for this course. Thus, you too are eligible. However, admission will be done on the basis of marks scored in entrance exam conducted by the university.

Students who have scored an aggregate of 45% (40% in case of reserved categories) will be considered eligible for the course. Hi Richa, following are the details on admission in MA in IDOL:

  • Admission will be based on merit in qualifying examination i.e. graduation.
  • Candidates can apply for admission till Aug 31, 2019 (tentatively). 

Following is the list of enclosures needed at the time of admission:

  • Two self-attested copies of proof of Date of Birth
  • Copy of Residence Proof
  • Three recent passport size photographs
  • Caste Certificate (if applicable)
  • Three self-Attested copies of Class 12th Marksheet
  • Identity Card of the previous course (For old IDOL students only)
  • Three copies of Bachelor Degree Certificate (For MA, M.Com., M.Sc.(Maths) only)
  • Two years of work experience certificate (For PGDFM and PGDORM only)
