Established by the government of Tamil nadu in 1989, Tamil Nadu Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) wasthe first veterinary and animal sciences university to be established in Asia. Realizing the importance of education research in animal and fisheries sciences, the university thrives to increase its productivity towards better income generation for the resource poor farmer by offering undergraduate, post graduate as well as doctoral programmes to its students.

Only candidates with the relevant qualifying degree can register for admission to B.Tech and B.V.Sc. & AH programme through online application process available at the official university website. Selection of candidates for these programmes will be done on the basis of their performance in qualifying degree examination. As per the rules prescribed by the Government of Tamil Nadu, few seats are reserved for different community groups and candidates belonging to special categories such as Differently abled, Sports persons, Children of Freedom Fighter and Children of Ex-serviceman.
