Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) M.Phil. Admissions 2019: Eligibility, Time Table, Result

Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), formerly the University of Pune was founded in 1948. The University is home to 46 academic departments. It has been given the highest “A” rating by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council for its overall performance. The University has now been ranked 3rd in India by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has affiliated colleges, departments, and research institutes, which are primarily in Pune. More than 70 Research Institutions have been recognised by the University.

The University offers Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) Degree in various disciplines. The M.Phil. Degree shall have the status of an intermediate Degree between the first Post-Graduate Degree and the Doctorate Degree. It will have both research and course components and will give the student adequate background for advanced research. The M.Phil. Course can be done either on a full-time or on a Vacational basis depending upon the availability of the programme in the Department/College.

The duration of the full-time M.Phil. Course shall be 12 months. The vacational M.Phil. Programme shall extend over a period of 24 months. The facility of vacational M.Phil. Programme shall be restricted to full-time teachers of Colleges/Universities and full-time research workers of the Recognised Institutions within the jurisdiction of the University of Pune.

The University invites Applications for admission to the M.Phil. Programme for the academic year. The admission is through an Entrance Test conducted by the respective Departments.

University conducts 2 hours entrance examination for M.Phil. It is a 100 marks examination which has two parts- Research methodology for 50 marks and subject specific for 50 marks. General category student must have 50% in entrance examination and reserved category student must have 45% marks.

Eligibility Criteria

M.Phil. (Botany) , M.Phil. (Chemistry) & M.Phil. (Communication Studies)

  • Master's degree or equivalent. 
  • Master's degree with 55% or grade 'B' in UGC 7- point scale. 
  • 50% or equivalent grade for reserved categories or differently abled (this deduction will be done excluding the grace marks procedures).

Exemption: 

  • UGC-NET, JRF, UGC-CSIR NET, SLET or GATE qualified students are exempted from entrance examination. 
  • Teacher fellowship holders are also exempted from the entrance test. 


How to apply?

You can download the Application Form from the University website- http://bcud.unipune.ac.in/phd_entrance/applicant/login.aspx

You should fill in the required personal and educational details in the form.

Application Fee:

  • Appearing M.Phil entrance examination- for open category is INR 1000/- and for reserved category is INR 750/- 
  • Students exempted from entrance examination- for open category is INR 800/- and for reserved category is INR 600/- 

Mode of Payment:

  • If you select payment mode as Cash, you will get 2 options for bank as HDFC Bank or Bank of Maharashtra. Choose any one you wish to pay through and click on “Submit”. After this, the Bank Challan will be get generated. You should then take a printout of this challan (by clicking link "Print Challan") and pay cash in cash counter of any branch of selected bank.
  • Online Payment: If you select payment mode as Online Payment, click on Submit, you will be get redirected to University Online Payment Gateway

Enclosures: You should enclosed following documents along with the hard copy of application forms:

  • University copy of Bank Challan
  • Attested photocopy of marksheet of Master’s Degree
  • Attested copy of the cast certificate in case of Reserved categories (if applicable)
  • Attested copy of non-creamy layer certificate (if applicable )
  • Attested copy of domicile certificate (if you are domicile of Maharashtra)
  • Attested copy of medical certificate issued by civil surgeon in case of persons with Disabilities (P.H) ( if applicable)
  • Attested copy of certificate issued by concerned authority in case of children of Defence personal / Ex- servicemen

For exempted candidate: 

  • Photo copy of UGC-NET/ JRF/ UGC-CSIR NET/ SET/ GATE

You should then submit your Application form with the required attachments and send them to the respective University departments.


Selection Process

M.Phil. (Botany) , M.Phil. (Chemistry) & M.Phil. (Communication Studies)

  • You will be selected on the basis of satisfactory performance at the Master’s Degree Entrance examination. 
  • Students selected in entrance examination will be called for personal interview (PI). 
  • Later on the basis of entrance examination and PI admission will be granted


Reservation Criteria

  • For general category students result must be 50%. 
  • For reserved category students result must be 45%
