Students can obtain the application form through post by sending the Demand Draft of INR 550 drawn in favor of “Tamil Nadu Open University” Payable at Chennai.
Note: Students applying through post should mention their complete postal address clearly on Acknowledgement card attached with the application form.
Students can also obtain the application form by visiting the University campus or through zonal centres (study centres) by paying INR 500 as cost of application form. The mode of payment should be via Demand Draft drawn in favor of “Tamil Nadu Open University” payable at Chennai or cash.
Eligibility Criteria for B.Ed Course
Bachelor of Education (B. Ed)
Available Seats: Total available seats are 1000. 100 seats per study centre.
B. Ed. (Special Education) in English & Tamil Medium
Intellectual Disability or Mental Retardation
Available Seats: Total 600 (250 for Tamil & 250 for English). 40 seats will be allotted to each study centre.
Aspiring students must have passed the UG degree according to 11+1+3 or 10+2+3 pattern in following areas are eligible to apply:
Tamil, Tamil literature, English, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Applied Physics, Geo-Physics, Bio-Physics, Electronics, Chemistry, Bio Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Botany, Environmental Science, Bio-Technology, Plant - Biology, Zoology, Micro-Biology, History, Geography, Applied Geography, Computer Science, Computer Application and Information Technology. And Post Graduates in Economics, Commerce and Home Science can also apply.
Those students who have obtained the UG degree without 10+2 qualification will not be eligible to apply.
Students who have obtained the PG degree i.e. integrated degree in 11+1+3 or 10+2+3 pattern are also eligible to apply. For PG degree holder marks of starting 3 years of education will be considered only for admission.
Those students who have secured 50% marks in PG degree & also have completed the UG degree in same major subjects as that in PG but not satisfying the percentage criteria of UG are eligible to apply.
Students who have completed the teacher education program approved by NCTE through face to face mode are eligible to apply.
Two years of teaching experience in different schools will be considered for admission. There may be a break in teaching but at the time of application student should be working in the school.
Students with degree in Sociology/Psychology/Philosophy/ Political Science/ Corporate Secretary ship or Business Administration are not eligible to apply.
Students with unmatched specializations in UG & PG degree are not eligible to apply. For example if any student has obtained UG in Economics & PG in History will not be considered for admission.
Minimum marks requirement for students in UG degree:
Open Competition (OC)

Note: 1. In service teachers associated with D. T. Ed. From any recognized Government school located in Tamil Nadu state are eligible to apply.
2. For physically disabled students a minimum pass in the Bachelor’s degree is sufficient. For other candidates it is 50%.
Reservation Criteria for B.Ed Course
Students must go through the reservation offered by TNOU before applying for B. Ed. Course.
Except Muslims (BC-O)
Including 1% for Ex-servicemen of Tamil Nadu state & 3% for physically handicapped students.
Admission Process for B.Ed Course
Selection of students in respective study centres will be performed on the basis of marks in UG degree & decisions made during counselling proceedings.
An entrance examination of 2 hours duration will be conducted for B. Ed. (Special Education). Test will be conducted at Madurai, Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy & Tirunelveli.
Priority will be given to the students with highest qualification in same subjects as given below:
Students with PG
Students with M. Phil.
Students with Ph. D
Students with Disability certificate possess RCI certificate
Documents required at the time of Admission:
Counselling call letter
Community & Medical Certificate
Marks sheet of class 10th & 12th
UG & PG certificates along with marks statements
M. Phil & Ph. D marks statements (if applicable)
NCC/NSS or sports certificates as applicable.
