JNTU Anantapur Ph.D and M.Phil Admissions 2019: Course, Entrance Exam, Dates,

JNTU Anantapur invites candidates to join their various specializations offered in M.Tech and M.Pharm courses. Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University is the new name of 'The college of Engineering, Vishakhapatnam' which was established in 1946. It became a constituent college of the university in 1972. JNTU Anantapur started functioning in 2008 from one of its constituent colleges. It is one of the most highly ranked technical universities of the country, coming up with various schemes to provide quality education to the students.

The admission to research programs is based on an entrance test conducted by JNTU Anantapur. The day and time of examination is conveyed to the candidates who have applied. The admission is based on the marks scored in the test, along with an interview. JNTU Anantapur only provides External (Part-Time) research courses. The full time research courses are provided by its constituent colleges. The M.S. courses mentioned below are research based only.   • Engineering and Pharmacy stream candidates should have an Engineering/Pharmacy graduate degree along with a Postgraduate degree in the relevant discipline.
  • For Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering, the candidate should have a B.Tech and M.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering department. Or
  • The candidate should have an M.Sc./M.Sc.(Comp. Sc.) degree with mathematics as one of the subjects. or The candidate should have an M.C.A. degree.
  • For Pharmacy streams, the candidates with a Pharm.D. degree are also eligible.
  • For Food and Technology, the candidate must have an M.Sc. degree in Chemistry/ Microbiology/ Biochemistry/ Home Science/ Agriculture/ Horticulture/Food Tech./ Food Sciences &Nutrition/Veterinary Science. Or
  • The candidate should have an M.Sc. or M.Tech. degree in  Chemical Engineering/ Dairy Technology/ Biotechnology.
  • The candidate must have scored at least 55% (50% for SC/ST) in their qualifying degree.
  • For Biotechnology, the candidate must have an M.Sc. degree in BioTechnology/ Chemistry/ Botany/ Zoology/ Biochemistry /Food Tech./ Microbiology or The candidate should have an M.Tech. degree in Biotechnology.

Note: If the candidate achieved the PG degree through distance mode, the program must have the approval of AICTE, UGC and Distance Education Council.

Employment Criteria (for external candidates):

The candidates who want to conduct their research program as external candidates must be working in an Educational/ Scientific /R&D/Industrial/Government Organization for at least one year, and should fulfill all the eligibility criteria mentioned above. They can continue to work in the said organization.

Such candidates will have to declare that they with to complete the degree as an external candidate at the time of admission. They also have to submit a letter of employment from their Institution/Organization. They also have to take permission to take a leave of at least 6 months at least twice in the total duration of the research to appear for examination and complete the thesis.

The candidates who work in JNTU or any of its constituent colleges will be seen as internal candidates. Their seats will be over and above the advertised seats.

Eligibility for Supervisor/Co-Supervisor:

  • All candidates have to identify and obtain consent of a supervisor who has all the necessary qualification for supervision.
  • A supervisor can only be allotted 8 Ph.D. students and 5 M.Phil./M.S. students.
  • The supervisor should be a teacher/researcher in an Institution/Organization.
  • He/she should have a Ph.D. in the relevant discipline along with a minimum of 7 years of teaching/research work in which at least 2 years should be post Ph.D.
  • If the supervisor is external, a co-supervisor is to be appointed by the University.

M.Phil. (English) & M.Phil. (Science)

Duration: 2 to 4 years

Seats: 20 (5 per discipline)

  • The filled in application form, a plan of research work (min 500 words), three self-addressed stamped envelopes (size: 22x10 cm stamp: Rs.5/-) and a demand draft of Rs.1,000/- (Rs.500/- for SC/ST) in favor of 'The Registrar, JNTU Anantapur' payable at any national bank, preferably SBI is to be submitted via post/courier or in person.

Admission Process

M.Phil/Ph.D in Pharmacy , M.Phil/Ph.D in Engineering & M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts

  • The final selection is based on an entrance test and/or an interview.
  • The test is conducted by JNTU Anantapur and is of one hour's duration.
  • The date and time of the test will be intimated to the eligible candidates by the University.
  • The syllabus, along with other details for the exam will also be available at the University's website.
  • The candidates must collect their hall tickets from the Director of admissions, JNTU Anantapur one day prior to the exam.
  • The candidate who seek admission in Ph.D. course and have qualified in UGC/CSIR (JRF)/NET/SLET/SET/GATE/GPAT, or possess an M.Phil. degree (not via distance education) need not appear for the examination. They have to come for an interview on the date and time allotted to them.
