BSc or Bachelor of Science from IGNOU is a 3-year undergraduate course for students who wish to make a career in science and research stream. The program fee amounts to INR 12,500 with no age limits for the applicants. The admission criteria for the same is merit-based for students with 50% marks in 10+2 in science stream. 

BSc degree at IGNOU is a foundation course, providing theoretical and practical knowledge in science & its allied fields. Common BSc subjects include Mathematics, Physics, Zoology, Chemistry, and Botany.

B.Sc admission process for the January cycle starts in November and the admission process for the July cycle starts in the month of May. Applicants are required to apply online through the official website along with the application fee of INR 200.

IGNOU BSc Nursing

To provide working nurses the opportunity for higher learning, IGNOU runs B.Sc in Nursing or Post Basic (BScPB) for the working nurses. IGNOU BSc (Nursing) is of a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 5 years of duration with INR 54,000 as the course fee. There are no age limits for the applicants.

Applicants are considered eligible for the course only if:

  • Passed 10 +2
  • Three years Diploma in General Nursing or Midwifery
  • They are registered nurse or midwives with 2 years of experience

The program is divided into 22 courses i.e. 11 theory and 11 practical.

IGNOU B.Sc Assignments

Assignments in IGNOU are kept under continuous evaluation as they are one of the important components of the course. Assignments in B.Sc program carry 30% weightage and the 70% weightage is given to the Term End Examinations. Marks of the assignments are added in the final result, any student who fails to submit the assignment is not allowed to sit in the TEE. So, the students must take assignments seriously.

The assignments given are from the course structure only, there is no need to look for some extra reading to complete your assignments. Although the validity to submit the assignments is one year but the most preferable, submit your assignments before filling the TEE.

Ques. How can I get the B.Sc study material?

Ans. Study material is dispatched prior to the assignment submission date. One can choose to opt for online or offline study material. One can study from online sources till the time offline material is dispatched. But if you are opting for offline study material, you need to pay at the time of admission fee.

Ques. What are the documents required for the application form?

Ans. Before filling-up the form online, candidates must possess the following documents:
  • Scanned Photograph (less than 100 KB in size)
  • Scanned Signature (less than 100 KB in size)
  • Scanned copy of Age Proof
  • Scanned copy of relevant Educational Qualification (less than 400 KB in size)

Ques. How are the application-oriented courses for the B.Sc program?

Ans. Application-oriented courses in B.Sc are to develop skills within the students. The students need to opt for an application-oriented course in the third-year. Students must select a total of 8 credits to complete the course successfully.

Ques. What is the syllabus for Application-Oriented courses?

Ans. The application-oriented courses contain project work of 2 credits. The project work is to be submitted at the registrar office and qualifying the same is compulsory.

Ques. What is the evaluation structure for the program?

Ans. The evaluation structure at the university consists of two components i.e.
  • Continuous evaluation through assignments,
  • Term-End Examinations

Students must pass in both the components to earn the credit assigned to that course. The final result depends on the 30:70 ratio, where 30% marks are allotted to the assignments and 70% marks are allotted to the examination.
