Kerala University was established in 1937. At present, it offers various UG, PG and Doctoral courses in several disciplines in the field of Engineering, Architecture, Law, Management, Basic Sciences, Arts, Commerce, and Education. Kerala Universityalso offers distance education programs through the School of Distance Education (SDE). Application forms are available online for all the courses offered by Kerala University.

For PG level programs, the university conducts an entrance test followed by an interview. Final admission in all the courses is subject to candidates’ performance in the entrance and interview with due weightage to the relevant work experience (if any).

For M.Tech, valid GATE score holders, University Exam score, are eligible to apply.

For MBA (Full-Time), candidates are selected as per their marks in KMAT, CAT or CMAT followed by GD and PI.

The University bagged the Indira Gandhi National Award for the best NSS activities in 2005, and the UNESCO NLM award for literacy in 2005, State Govt’s award for eGovernance in 2010 and the first Chancellor’s Award for the best University in the State of Kerala, in 2015. The University is re-accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ grade since 2015 and 22nd in NIRF ranking.

Kerala University M.Tech Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidate must have passed B.Tech/B.E in the related discipline with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/ PWD and 53% for OBC) in aggregate
  • The candidate must have a valid GATE score, University Exam score
  • The candidate must be less than 45 years old at the time of admission
  • The final year students or candidates having work experience, all are eligible for admission.

Kerala University M.Tech. Selection Criteria

  • The admissions are based on the GATE score, University Exam score, followed by an interview.
  • The candidates need to appear for the Entrance Exam conducted by the university, or register with a valid GATE score.
  • The qualified candidates will be called for an interview at the University.
  • The final rank list will be prepared by considering 80% marks for Academic background and entrance score, 10% marks for work experience and 10% for interview.

GATE Exam Pattern for M.Tech Course 

The GATE exam pattern is always released by IIT Delhi. This year authorities have added a new subject named Biomedical Engineering (BE). 

The paper format will contain both multiple type questions and numerics. The marks will be differently calculated for both types of questions.

MCQs will carry 1 mark. It will feature a negative marking of ⅓ mark. The negative marking of MCQs 2 will feature a negative marking of ⅔ marks. Numerical questions will not feature any negative marking.

Kerala University MBA Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate should have passed the degree from any Indian University, under the regular stream, recognized by the University of Kerala and shall be in the 10+2+3 pattern (or in 10+2+4 pattern). 
  • In all the cases the student should have passed the degree examination with not less than 50% marks/equivalent grade (no rounding off allowed) in Part III /core plus complimentary in BA, B.Sc, B.Com etc., or 50% marks/equivalent grade (no rounding off allowed) in aggregate in case of BE / B.Tech, B.Sc (Agri.) and other 4/5 year degree courses. 
  • The candidates, who have passed MA / M.Sc / M.Com or any other PG Degree recognized by the University of Kerala with 50% of marks/equivalent grade in aggregate, are also eligible for admission. 
  • SC/ST and SEBC candidates shall be given relaxation as per University rules.
  • The final year students or candidates having work experience, all are eligible for admission.

Kerala University MBA Selection Criteria

  • The candidates should possess a valid score from any one of the entrance examinations conducted by KMAT, CMAT or CAT
  • All registered candidates who have provided valid scorecard will be invited through SMS/email to participate in the Group Discussion and Interview to be held at IMK, University of Kerala, Kariyavattom campus.
  • The provisional rank list for admission to the MBA Programme will be prepared on the basis of the score obtained by the candidate in the Entrance Test (80% weightage), Group Discussion (10% weightage) and Interview (10% weightage).

KMAT Exam Pattern for MBA Course 

KMAT is the Kerala Management Admission Test conducted by the Kerala University. This exam is conducted for admission to MBA and MCA programs. The exam is conducted in offline mode. In this examination, the quantitative, verbal, data interpretation and reasoning skills of the candidates will be evaluated. The exam is conducted twice a year in June and December.

Kerala University PG Selection Criteria

  • The admission to the above mentioned PG courses is based on the Entrance Exam conducted by the University
  • The syllabus of the exam changes for each PG course.
  • Candidates shall secure at least 25% (20% for SC/ST category) of the average marks of the stream in the entrance examination conducted by the University of Kerala. 
  • Rank list for admission shall be prepared based on the performance in the entrance exam. 
  • Sponsored candidates will be called for the personal Interview at the University campus.
  • For sponsored candidates, ranking shall be based on 80% weightage for CGPA / aggregate marks at bachelor level and 10% for work experience and 10% for an interview conducted by the Department Council.

Kerala University PG Admission 2020 Entrance Exam Pattern 

To get admission to PG courses at Kerala University, candidates are required to appear in an entrance examination conducted by Kerala University. No candidate will provide admission without appearing in the PG entrance examination. However, the restrictions aren't applicable on ST/SC students that are admitted to vacant seats, sponsored candidates, and foreign candidates.

Kerala University How To Apply?

The interested and eligible candidates can apply to the PG courses at Kerala University in the following way:

  • Visit the official website of the Kerala University, and read all the admission related documents carefully.
  • Visit the admissions section, and click on the preferred course application.
  • Register, and login to the portal.
  • Fill-in the required info, photograph, signature, and upload the relevant documents (if required).
  • Submit the application, and pay the application fee.
  • If applying to M.Tech, or MBA through GATE, CAT, KMAT, or CMAT, upload the exam details and score obtained.
  • For other PG courses, candidates need to appear for the Entrance Exam, conducted by the University.

The University also has Special Reservation for Foreign, Non-Kerala, Persons with Disabilities (PWD), Sponsored Candidates and Sports Persons. For each PG programme, there shall be supernumerary seats for: 

  • One candidate who is in the rank list and who is not a native of Kerala, in case no such student has secured admission in the programme in the concerned year through the rank list.
  • One foreign candidate eligible as per relevant regulations for foreign students.
  • Arts Quota: Students who have won the titles of ‘Kalathilakam’ or ‘Kalaprathibha’ in University Youth Festivals in their Bachelor's Programme, in any programme of their choice provided that he/she is eligible for admission to that programme.
  • One Sponsored candidate from Govt. / R&D Institutions / Industries, with a minimum of 2 years of work experience.
  • Persons with Disabilities (PWD): One student with a disability of 40% or above when the sanctioned seats are below 25 and two students, if the sanctioned seats are above 25.
  • Sports Quota: One seat shall be given for sports persons over and above the sanctioned strength in each subject for the First Post Graduate Degree Programme.

Ques. How are the internship and placement opportunities at Kerala University?

Ans. The institute has a full-fledged final placement cell which is dedicated to placing every student in the leading companies. University’s placement cell has proved its worth by attracting prospective recruiters year after year. The Institute manages to place its students in leading companies like EY, Federal Bank, Air India, UST Global, etc.

Ans. Yes, the university provides scholarships to meritorious & financially weak students. There are various other university / state / central level scholarships also.

Ques. How is the college infrastructure and hostel facilities at Kerala University?

Ans. The facilities include Wi-Fi, classroom and library. There are 3 canteens and a very good playground where students play football and cricket. The Wi-Fi availability, and computer lab facility on the campus is very good. The library facilities are average. The classrooms have the presence of smart classes.

Ques. How is the faculty at Kerala University?

Ans. The teachers of the institution are very prominent and have a great experience in both industrial and educational experience, and they all are giving their lectures with the help of smart classroom facilities. The ratio of faculty is 10:1. They also give some orientation classes, placement training, etc.
