May 31: Due to the pandemic outbreak, IIM Ahmedabad has postponed the application deadline. 

Identifying the need for well-trained managers and entrepreneurs due to the changes and development in businesses, IIM Ahmedabad provides an executive MBA aka PGPX program. This course is basically structured to reinvent business executives. An executive MBA in the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad is a one-year postgraduate program with 49 specializations. 

  • Applicants to this course are required to appear in GMAT/GRE and obtain a valid score.
  • The selection of this course is strictly based on GMAT/GRE merit followed by personal interviews. 
  • Locations for personal interviews are determined by the University including National and International. However, in some cases, online interviews are also conducted.

Eligibility Criteria 

To get admission to IIM Ahmedabad Executive MBA, aspirants are strictly required to attain the following eligibility criteria:

  • An applicant must hold a Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in any discipline. 
  • A minimum of 15 years of study is the basic requirement for admission to this course. 
  • The lower age limit for an executive MBA is 25 years as on 31st March 2020 i.e. an applicant must have been born on or before 31st March 1995. 
  • There is no upper age limit. 

Application Process

The application to an executive MBA or PGPX program follows these steps: 

  • Candidates are required to register online at the IIMA portal. They have to register with their GMAT/GRE ID at 
  • They are required to complete the registration process at 
  • Candidates can either apply to the first round or the second round. 
  • For the first round, candidates are required to submit the application fee of INR 5000 with a valid GMAT/GRE score.
  • For the second round, candidates are required to submit the application fee of INR 7500 with a valid score in GMAT/GRE exams.

  1. IIM Ahmedabad PGPX code for GMAT is CQQ-RR-60.
  2. IIM Ahmedabad PGPX code for GRE is 4432/2237. 

Executive MBA Entrance Exam 

Candidates are mandatorily required to appear and obtain valid marks in either GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) examinations or GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) examinations. 

  • If the candidate has applied for GMAT, he/she must obtain 700+ marks in the examinations. 
  • If the candidate has applied for GRE, he/she must obtain 300+ marks in the examinations. 

GMAT Exam Pattern

The first step of preparing for GMAT is being familiar with the exam pattern. It helps the candidate to understand the exam and to qualify. 

The GMAT exam paper will contain four following sections in GMAT 2020: 

  1. Analytical Writing Assessment
  2. Integrated Reasoning
  3. Quantitative Reasoning
  4. Verbal Reasoning

GRE Exam Pattern

GRE is one of the popular National Level Entrance Examinations for masters or doctoral degrees. GRE is an accepted examination for MS, MBA, JD, and Ph.D. It is conducted by Educational Testing Services across thousands of centers in 160 countries. The exam is conducted in two modes, computer-based and paper-based. GRE exam patterns can vary depending on the particular program for which a student is preparing. 

Selection Process 

The basic selection of PGPX or Executive MBA program is rigidly based on GMAT/GRE score. The selection of Executive MBA 2020-21 will be conducted in two rounds. Students may submit the application during any one of these two rounds. 

The selection criteria are as follows: 

  • The valid score in GMAT is 700+. 
  • The valid score in the GRE examination is 300+. 
  • Applicants are required to submit an essay.
  • The merit list will be prepared on analyzing an applicant's academic curriculum, work experience, entrance exam score following other parameters as well. 
  • The merit listed applicants will need to appear in the personal interview.

The selection of an executive MBA is a two-round process. The selection process follows these steps: 

  1. In the first step, applicants will be shortlisted for the Personal interview round.
  2. In the second step, all the shortlisted applicants will be interviewed by a panel of IIM Ahmedabad facilities. The panel will analyze the candidates based on several parameters.

Ques. Does the PGPX course enable students to go for higher studies such as Ph.D.? 

Ans. Yes. By completing the PGPX program, students can apply for higher studies. Several students have gone for Ph.D. from Harvard Business School.

Ques. Do I need an English proficiency certificate for applying to an executive MBA program at IIM Ahmedabad? 

Ans. Yes, the candidates who are seeking admission to the IIMA Executive MBA should be well-versed with English. This is judged by checking the analyzing the scores obtained by the candidate in Analytical Writing Analysis in GMAT/GRE.

Ques. Are there any Scholarship programs offered by IIMA in an executive MBA program?.

Ans. Yes, the candidates applying for an executive MBA can apply for scholarships as well. The institute offers five Interest Waiver Scholarship on merit basis under this program. This scholarship will work as an interest waiver on bank loans on the amount of loan taken by the candidate, for paying the program fee. The validity of this scholarship will be one year. The maximum amount can go up to 3 lakhs. 

However, no other scholarships are provided.
