Kerala University (KU) M.Tech. Admission 2020: Dates, Eligibility, Result

Students looking for admission in higher degree courses in University of Kerala can apply for PG programmes in different streams. Information regarding the same has been issued. There are four specialisation offered in M.Tech programme- Information Technology, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer science Engineering. 

University has separate rules & regulations for admission in certain PG courses. In M.Tech there are 18 seats offered by the university, out of which there are 5 sponsored seats, there are 3 seats for SC/ ST and 10 seats for general quota. Student must have 50% in bachelors degree. Admission will be given on the basis of GATE/ UGC-CSIR-NET for the non sponsored seats. Students must have 50% in 10+2.  Check KU Admission 2020

Eligibility Criteria for Kerala University M.Tech

Check different eligibility norms for different  PG programmes offered by University of Kerala.

Master of Technology [M.Tech] (Optoelectronics and Optical Communication)

  • B. Tech/ B.E in related fields with 55% marks.
  • Candidates under sponsored seats must have a minimum experience of two years in relevant field and must be sponsored by the industry / training / research organizations.

Master of Technology [M.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)

  • Students must have passed B. Tech / B.E in related fields
  • Or First Class Master’s degree in Computer Science / Computer Application from the University of Kerala or equivalent recognized degree of a recognized University.

Master of Technology [M.Tech] (Technology Management)

  • B. Tech Degree or equivalent in any branch of Engineering / Technology with at least 55% marks from any of the recognized Universities in India.
  • Admissions to non-sponsored seats will be made on the basis of valid GATE score.
  • Admissions to sponsored seats will be governed by the following AICTE guidelines. The candidates should have:-
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Technology with at least 55% marks from AICTE approved institutions. Preference will be given to candidates who have qualified GATE.
  2.  A minimum two-years of full time work experience in a registered firm / company / industry / educational and research institution / any Government Department or Government Autonomous Organization in the relevant field.
  3. Less than 45 years of age as on 1st day of the year of admission.

How to Apply for Kerala University M.Tech

Visit the official website of the university to download the application form. 

Now send the application form with the necessary documents at- Kerala university, Kariavottam, Thiruvananthapuram- 695581. 

Send an application fee of INR 500/- 

In case of GATE qualified student, they must attach the copy of their hall ticket. 

Documents to be attached: 

  • Pay-in-slip of Rs. 500/- of University Cash Counter or crossed DD for Rs. 510/- 
  • Attested copies of Mark Lists of qualifying examination (all semesters/all years).
  • Attested copy of GATE/NET score card.
  • Attested copies of Community and Income Certificate for OBC reservation.
  • Attested copies of Community Certificate and BPL Certificate for BPL reservation.
  • Attested copy of Disability certificate from the Medical Board of a Government Hospital for
  • Physically Handicapped reservation.
  • Experience Certificate 
  • Attested copy of Community Certificate for SC/ST reservation.

Documents required to be send along with the application form:

  1. Pay in slip of INR 500 or Demand Draft of INR 500 drawn in favour of “The Finance officer, Kerala University” payable at Thiruvananthapuram, issued by SBT/SBI or District Cooperative Bank. Name of the student should be written on the back side of the DD.
  2. Marks sheet of qualifying exams (attested copies)
  3. Copy of GATE score card
  4. Attested copy of Community certificate (for SC/ST students)
  5. BPL/Experience/Sponsorship certificates
  6. Attested copy of Disability certificate

Admission Process for Kerala University M.Tech/M.Sc & other PG Courses

Aspiring students can check the separate admission process for different PG programmes offered by the University of Kerala.


Students will be selected on the basis of valid GATE score or entrance exam conducted by University.

User Fact:

  • When GATE qualified candidates are not available, admission will be given to Non-GATE candidates on merit. Such admissions will be based on an entrance test conducted by the University of Kerala. Ranking will be done on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination and the entrance test in the 40: 60.

In case of sponsored candidates ranking will be done on the following basis:

  • Qualifying exams:  40% weightage will be given to the marks secured in the qualifying exam by the candidate.
  • Entrance exam:  50% weightage to marks secured in the Entrance Exams
  • Experience: 10% weightage will be given to the work experience of the candidate.

Master in Social Work [MSW] & Master of Science [M.Sc] (Computer Science)

Although the selection process is completely merit based but in case of entrance test , the division of marks is as follows.

  1. weightage of 40 % for the marks scored in the qualifying examination.
  2. weightage of 30% for the marks obtained in the entrance test conducted by the university for this purpose.
  3. weightage of 15 % for the performance of the candidate in group discussion and, a weightage of 15% for the performance of the candidate in interview
