Calcutta University LLM and MCA Admissions 2019: Eligibility, Application Process, Result

The University of Calcutta (informally known as Calcutta University or CU) is a public state university located in Kolkata, West Bengal, established on 24 January 1857. It was the first institution in Asia to be established as a multidisciplinary and secular Western-style university. Within India it is recognized as a "Five-Star University" and a "Centre with Potential for Excellence" by the UGC and the NAAC.

There are seven Nobel laureates associated with this university including Ronald Ross, Rabindranath Tagore, C. V. Raman and Amartya Sen.It has the highest number of students who have cleared the doctoral entrance eligibility exam in Natural Science & Arts. The university is recognized as one of the most prestigious universities in the world. It was also ranked 2nd by the India Today Top India Universities of 2012, 2013 and 2014.

University of Calcutta offers LLM Programme and MCA Programme. The LLM Programme is available in the following two colleges: Department of Law, C.U. 2) Jogesh Chandra Chaudhury Law College. It is for a duration of three years whereas the MCA Programme is for a duration of two years.

The University invites Applications for admission to the programmes. The admission to the LLM Programme will be on the basis of the Entrance Test conducted by the University and the admission to the MCA Programme will be based on the WB JECA Entrance Exam followed by an Interview. The Applications for LLM Programme can be downloaded online or obtained from the website. The Applications for MCA Programme have to be filled online and submitted to the University office.

You should have passed your B.A. L.L.B (Hons.) / B.A. L.L.B. / L.L.B (Hons.) / L.L.B. examination from this university or from other university recognized by the University of Calcutta.


MCA aspirants seeking admission at Calcutta University must appear for the WB JECA.

  • To be eligible for the same, one must be a citizen of India.
  • One should have B.Sc. Honours degree under (10+2+3) pattern in any discipline of a recognized Board/University/Institute with Mathematics as one of the subjects, with a minimum of 60% marks in Honours/Aggregate at graduation level.
  • Candidate must have secured at least 60% marks in Secondary and Higher Secondary or equivalent level from recognized Boards with at least 60% marks in Mathematics at each level.

How To Apply


One can download and print the Application Form from the University’s official website.

  • Mention the Roll No. of the previous qualifying examination.
  • One must fill the form with the required personal and educational details.
  • Affix a recent passport size colored photograph in the space provided.
  • Sign the declaration.

Application Fee: You must pay the Application Fee of INR 400 (Non-refundable) for General Category and INR 200 (Non-refundable) for SC / ST / Physically Challenged category.

You must then send the duly signed Application Form along with the required enclosures to the following address:

First, the candidates must register for WBJEE JECA and then register for admission at the university.

One can apply online through the University website.

  • The applicant should fill the Application Form with the required personal and educational details.
  • S/he must attach a recent passport size photograph (not more than 15kb) with dimensions: 3.5cm x 3.5cm.
  • Upload the photocopies of all the relevant mark-sheets:- 10+2 and B.Sc. (Hons)
  • The candidate must provide his/her email address.
  • Submit the Application Form online.
  • After online submission, a Challan will automatically be generated by the computer mentioning total fees required. The same amount to be paid by Cash using the said Challan.

Application Fee: You should pay the fee of Rs.100 (for General category) and Rs.50 (for SC/ST/PWD category) by depositing by cash at CU CASH COUNTER by the Challan generated in the computer after online submission any CU CASH COUNTER at any campus.

Enclosures: You must attach the photocopies of all the above-mentioned documents/certificates along with the passport size photograph.

You must send the print out of the submitted Application Form along with the required enclosures to the following address:

Admission Process


Selection will be based on the performance of the candidate in the Entrance Test conducted by the University.

The written test will carry a total of 100 marks, 60 marks will be for MCQs and the remaining 40 marks will comprise of subjective questions.
The exam will be conducted at the Department of Law, 51/1, Hazra Road, Kolkata- 700019.

50% of seats in the First Year will be reserved for B.A. LL.B (Hons.) students of the Calcutta University.

Merit List and Final List will be published on the university’s website. Candidates will be called for counseling as per their rank on the merit list.

The candidates must produce the following documents at the time of counseling:

  • Original Admit Card of LL.M. Entrance Exam
  • Original admit cards and mark-sheets of B.A.LL.B/LL.B
  • Category certificate

Photocopies of all the above-mentioned documents.

INR 2000 will be collected as caution money from each candidate during the time of counseling, the amount will be adjusted by the institution at the time of admission.


You will be selected on the basis of the West Bengal JECA Entrance Examination. There will be 50% weightage for written examination, 20% weightage on B.Sc. honours marks and 30% weightage on interview.

The examination will be for a duration of three hours and will contain 150 multiple choice type questions. The test will be conducted online. It will consist of two papers:

Paper 1 will be based on Mathematics, which will have 100 multiple choice type questions. This will be for a duration of 2 hours.

Paper 2 will be an Aptitude Test. There will be 50 questions. This will be for a duration of 1 hour.

There shall be negative marking of 1/4 marks for every incorrect answer. Every correct answer will yield 1 mark.


For LLM Programme:-

50% of the total number of seats in the 1st year shall be reserved for B.A. L.L.B (Hons.). candidates of this university. Reservation of Seats for SC, ST, OBC and PWD candidates will be as per University rules.

For MCA Programme:-

Reservation of Seats for SC, ST, OBC and PWD candidates will be as per University rules.
