Calcutta University B.Tech. and M.Tech. Admissions 2020: Eligibility, Application Process, Dates

Rashbehari Shiksha Prangan, University of Calcutta , offers the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) Program and Master of Technology (M.Tech.) Program. B.Tech program is offered in 10 specializations and the M.Tech program is available in 9 Specializations. 

University of Calcutta invites application for both B.Tech and M.Tech programs in both online and offline mode for the academic year 2020. Selections to B.Tech. Programme will be based on WBJEE(West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination) and for M.Tech. Program will be based on Entrance Exam (Conducted by the University) score/ Gate Score followed by an Interview. Check University of Calcutta​ Admission 2020.

How To Apply

BE/B.Tech & ME/M.Tech

Application form for B.Tech and M.Tech program can be filled online on the official WBJEEwebsite. Detailed procedure to fill the application form is bulleted below, check:

  1. Fill in all the required information.
  2. Upload all the enclosures.
  3. Pay the required fees of INR 500 + Bank Service Charges either by Debit Card/Credit Card or by Allahabad Bank challan.
  4. 4. Click on submit to successfully conclude the registration process.
  5. Take a print out of the Confirmation Page after final submission of the Application for future references.

Admission Process

BE/B.Tech

Selection to B.Tech program offered by the Calcutta University is based on West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2020.

The exam would be based on class XI, XII Syllabus. There will be two papers. Paper I will be of Mathematics for a duration of 2 hours. Paper II will be of Physics and Chemistry, also for a duration of 2 hours. Questions in the exam will be of multiple choice/ objective type. In both the papers, questions will be classified in three categories – category 1, category 2 and category3.

The category-wise marking scheme is as follows:-

Category 1- For each correct answer, one mark will be awarded. There shall also be negative marking with 0.25 marks being deducted for every incorrect answer. For marking more than 1 answer, marks will be deducted.

Category 2- For each correct answer, 2 marks will be allotted and negative marking of 0.50 marks will be implemented for wrong answers. For marking more than 1 answer, marks will be deducted.

Category 3- In this section more than 1 answer can be correct. Negative making will not be done in this section. You might have to mark all the correct answers, for which 2 marks will be awarded. However, if you mark one correct and one incorrect answer then no marks will be awarded.

For Lateral Entry:- Applicants will be selected on the basis of merit in qualifying exam.

ME/M.Tech

Candidates will be selected on the basis of an Entrance Test conducted by the respective Departments of the University, followed by an Interview. 70% weightage will be given to the GATE marks obtained (out of 100) and 20 % weightage will be given to marks obtained in the Entrance Test & rest 10% weightage is assigned to Interview.

Entrance Test:-

The Entrance Test will be of MCQ type for a duration of one and a half hours. The Exam will carry a maximum of 100 marks. The number of questions in each test will be 50 (marking as 1 to 50) and each question should have four options of answers (marking as A, B, C, and D) of which one will be the correct answer. For each correct answer, 2 marks will be awarded. There shall be negative marking with 0.5 marks being deducted for each wrong answer.
