The University of Calcutta (informally known as Calcutta University or CU) is a public state university located in Kolkata, West Bengal, established on 24 January 1857. It was the first institution in Asia to be established as a multidisciplinary and secular Western-style university. Within India it is recognized as a "Five-Star University" and a "Centre with Potential for Excellence" by the UGC and the NAAC.
There are seven Nobel laureates associated with this university including Ronald Ross, Rabindranath Tagore, C. V. Raman and Amartya Sen. It has the highest number of students who have cleared the doctoral entrance eligibility exam in Natural Science & Arts. University of Calcutta invites Applications for admission to the Undergraduate Programmes for the academic year. The programmes offered are Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Programme, Bachelor of Library Sciences (B.Li.Sc.) Programme, Bachelor of Arts (BA) Programme, Bachelor of Science (Home Science) Programme and BA Bachelor of Law Programme BA LLB Programme. For all Programmes:-
You should apply online only through the official University website.
Step 1: You should register yourself at the website and click on “Register for New User”. You must enter your Name, Date of Birth, Email, Category, Whether Wards of Police, Details of the Police personnel/Ex-Police Personnel, 8 to 15 character pass word, confirm password and enter verification code, continue.
Step 2: You should enter your Personal Information and Academic Information of Class 10th and Class 12th level.
Step 3: You should the college of your preference.
Step 4: You should upload your Photo and Signature. Both the images must be in JPEG format with the photo should be of 3.5 cm x 3.5 cm dimensions, being less than 50kb in size and signature less than 20 kb in size.
Step 5: You must pay the following Application Fee through State Bank Collect Payment through Debit Card/Credit Card, or download SBI Challan and pay at any SBI branch.
Step 6: You should then submit your application. Your application process is now complete.
Step 7: You can then download Application Form for future references. You are not required to submit hard copy of the Application Form.
The University offers B.Ed. Programme in the following method subjects:-
You should have passed with at least 50% marks either in the Bachelor’s Degree and/or in the Master’s Degree in Sciences / Humanities/ Social Science or Bachelor’s in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science and Mathematics with 55% marks or any other qualification equivalent thereto. There shall be a relaxation of 5% marks for SC/ST/PD category.
However, if you have been appointed as a teacher prior to the commencement of the NTCE rules 0f 2010, you need not fulfil the requirement of 50% marks.
Age: You should be not more than 40 years of age for general category and 45 years for reserved category, as on June 30th, 2019
80% of the seats will be reserved for students from Calcutta University only.
Overall, the distribution of the reserved seats in favour of various sections will be as follows:-
Students will be selected on the basis of merit and also on the basis of Entrance Test conducted by the Calcutta University.
The test will be based on objective type of questions. It will be for a duration of 2 and a half hours. It will consist of questions based on English, General Knowledge, Numerical Ability and Reasoning. There is a sample paper available on the University website.
You will be selected on the basis of Admission Test conducted by the University.
The questions of the Admission Test will be objective type and multiple choices. The areas of Admission Test will be English language, numerical ability, reasoning ability, general knowledge, basic subjects.
