CUSAT M.Tech. Admission 2020: Admit Card, Application Form, Entrance Exam

Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) offers full-time M.Tech programs for a duration of two academic years. It also offers part-time M.Tech. program spanning over a period of three years.

Admission to M.Tech is based on GATE score except for M.Tech Marine Engineering and M.Tech in Marine Bio-Technology. But if sufficient numbers of applicants are not available then the Non-GATE candidates can appear the DAT exam for admission to M.Tech.

To apply for admission in M.Tech. at CUSAT, One must have a B.E/B.Tech. or equivalent degree or AMIE in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks from any recognized University or institution with a valid GATE score.

For M.Tech Part-time programs, the GATE score is not required.

How to apply?

To apply, the candidates must visit the University’s Admission Portal and follow the given steps:

  • Register and create Login credentials.
  • Proceed with the application form.
  • Enter all the mandatory details.
  • Upload the Signature and Photograph,
  • Select the course from the dropdown list.
  • Select the qualification.
  • Confirm the “Test Subjects”
  • Enter the GATE score.
    M Tech (Non-GATE) candidates must appear a Department Admission Test (DAT) conducted by the department concerned.
  • Preview the application.
  • Pay the fee via Debit/Credit Card or Net Banking.

  • After a successful transaction, the list of available centers will be displayed.

NOTE: The candidate must wait for confirmation from the University. It may take at least two working days.

Note: Part-time M.Tech. programs are offered in alternate years and the same are not offered in 2019.

Duration: M.Tech (Full-time): 2 Year or 4 Semester & M.Tech (Part-time): 3 Year or 6 Semester

Eligibility Criteria for All M.Tech Programme except Marine Engineering and Marine Bio-Technology

  • You must have a B.E/B.Tech. or equivalent degree or AM IE in any discipline or AM II with 60% marks from any recognized University or institution with a valid GATE score. For M.Tech Part-time programs, the GATE score is not required.
  • The candidates with valid GATE score are eligible for 5% relaxation in the qualifying examination marks for M.Tech Programmes. Candidates belonging to Kerala Scheduled Cast (KSC) and Kerala Scheduled Tribe (KST) communities are eligible for applying if they have minimum pass marks in the qualifying examination.

Special Reservation

Physically Challenged: 3% seats are  reserved for physically  challenged  candidates with at least 40% disability for all  B.Tech courses, except B.Tech Marine Engineering,  Mechanical  Engineering,  Naval  Architecture & Ship  Building,  Instrumentation, Polymer Science  & Engineering and Safety & Fire Engineering. One seat  each for all other academic programmes except  M.Sc. (Industrial Fisheries)  is reserved for physically  challenged candidates.

Blind: Reservation for Blind candidates is applicable only for MA (Hindi) and LLM programmes.

Selection Procedure

Admission Procedure for all M.Tech programme except Marine Engineering and Marine Bio-Technology :

For admission to full time  M. Tech programmes  except  for M. Tech Marine Engineering  and M.Tech Marine Bio-Technology a valid GATE Score in the relevant subject  is compulsory. Applicants will be ranked on the basis of their GATE Score. Only in the absence of a sufficient number of GATE qualified candidates, candidates without GATE Score will be considered for admission on the basis of

For all Part-Time M.Tech Programmes, the rank lists will be prepared on the basis of the score obtained in respective DAT.

In the case of admission to M Tech Programmes, where ever there is a tie in the GATE Score/DAT Score- 

  • The marks obtained in the qualifying examination will be considered as tie-breaker.
  • If the final results of the qualifying examination are not published the marks up to the VIIth semester will be considered for the tie-breaking purpose.
  • If the tie continues, date of birth (in descending order) and name (in alphabetical order) will be considered in the respective order for breaking the tie.

NOTE: Candidates with a valid GATE Score in the concerned subject are eligible for 5% relaxation in the minimum mark requirement for qualifying examination.


Admission will be based on the ranking secured by the candidates in the merit list. Where the qualifying degree will carry 50% marks, The Department Test will carry 40% marks, and a weightage at the rate of 1% per year will be offered as per the candidates’ work experience.
