North Bengal University Ph.D. Admissions 2019: Courses, Result, Fees

North Bengal University is a UGC Recognized, AICTE Approved public university which was established in 1962. North Bengal University (NBU) has 23 departments imparting professional / non-professional education, research and training to many students every year.

The university offers admission to the Ph.D programme in the following 12 disciplines:-

Candidates will be shortlisted for admission to Ph.D programme on the basis of their performance in the entrance test, conducted by the university. Candidates can register themselves to the above mentioned research courses by submitting completed applications along with the registration fee amount of Rs. 1200/- and admission fee amount of Rs. 1000/-Within the stipulated time.

  • Candidate must possess master’s degree in Arts, Commerce, Law, Science, Engineering, Technology, pharmacy or any other discipline from this university or any other recognized university. Students must have secured at least 55% in the qualifying examination. Relaxationof 5% is given to the reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC and physically challenged candidates).
  • Candidates who possess M.Phil degree are also eligible to apply for the programme
  • Candidates who have been awarded research fellowship by DBT / DST / CSIR / UGC or any other Government recognized funding agency are also eligible to apply
  • Foreign candidates are required to produce clearance from the Government of India and / or other appropriate authorities before applying for admission

How To Apply

M.Phil/Ph.D in Law & M.Phil/Ph.D in Science

  • Candidates can download the application form available at the university website  accompanied by the crossed bank draft of Rs. 200/- and Rs. 100 (for SC/ST/OBC/PH category candidates) drawn in favour of "University of North Bengal" and payable at State Bank of India, NBU Campus Branch, Siliguri
  • Candidates can also obtain the application form from the office of the undersigned upon payment of Rs.100/- and Rs. 25/- (for SC/ ST/ BC/ PH candidates) at the university cash counter
  • Candidates should register themselves to the Ph.D programme by submitting the registration fee amount of Rs. 1200/- and admission fee of amount Rs. 1000/- through online payment modes such as net banking, credit card and ATM cum debit card.
  • Candidate must send the filled-in application form along with two copies of the recent passport size photograph and other documents at the following address:

Admission Process

M.Phil/Ph.D in Law & M.Phil/Ph.D in Science

Admission process for Ph.D in NBU can be understood from the following points as mentioned:-

  1. First of all, candidates must fulfil the eligibility criteria as prescribed by the university.
  2. Selection of candidates is based on the performance of the students in the entrance examination.
  3. Half syllabus of the entrance examination consists of the research methodology and rest is based on the specific subject.
  4. Candidates must secure at least 50% in the entrance examination to get in panel for viva-voce.
  5. After succesful conduction of entrance exam, viva-voce is conducted by the concerned department.
  6. Also, the candidates have to give a presentation regarding the topic of their research before duly constituted DRC.
