Indian Law Instituteis a deemed university which was established in 1956 primarily with the objective of promoting and conducting legal research. The Institute is an autonomous body registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and subscribes to 270 current legal periodicals. In 2005, the university enrolled its first batch of L.L.M and Ph.D. program.
The University offers the following research course to its students every year:
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) – (5 years)
Candidates can get admission to the above mentioned research courses on the basis of their performance in the entrance test, conducted by the university.
Candidates can register themselves to the above mentioned research course by submitting duly filled-in applications along with the enrolment fee of amount Rs. 2000/- through the available payment modes. Foreign or NRI candidates can register themselves to the above mentioned courses by submitting the admission fee of amount $100.

Eligibility
M.Phil/Ph.D in Law
Candidate must possess L.L.M degree from this university or any other recognized university with minimum 55% of marks.
Candidate must have to submit the brief research plan for admission.
5% relaxation in marks will be given to candidates belong to SC/ST category and 5% relaxation in marks will be given to physically handicapped candidates.
10% relaxation in marks will be given to Kashmiri migrant candidates.
Candidate must be physically and mentally fit for admission to Ph.D course.
How To Apply

Candidates can downlaod the application form available at the university website and submit them upon completion along with the processing fee of amount Rs. 3000/- through Net banking/Debit/Credit card and Demand Draft.
Candidates can also purchase the application form from the university admission counter upon paying INR 1000. At the time of submission of such applications, candidate has to pay Rs. 2000/- towards processing fee
Candidate can also obtain the prospectus along with the application form by Registered Book Post/Courier by sending a request letter along with Rs. 1100/- through DD drawn in favour of Indian Law Institute and payable at New Delhi. The envelope of the letter requesting for the Prospectus must be super-scribed at the left top corner as “REQUEST FOR PROSPECTUS”
Foreign candidate or NRI’s can register themselves to the above mentioned research courses by submitting the admission fee of amount $100.

Selection of the candidate to the above mentioned research courses is done on the basis of entrance test, conducted by the university.
Candidates will be called for Presentation of their Research Proposal and Interview according to the marks secured in the university entrance test.
Reservation
2 seats in each programme will be reserved for the candidates belong to Jammu & Kashmir state.
