CUSAT B.Tech Lateral Entry Admission 2020: Eligibility, Application Form, Entrance Exam

Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) offers admission to the third semester of B.Tech. programs through lateral entry scheme. Generally, for all courses, the application starts from January month of every year. 

Applicants for B.Tech Lateral Entry programs will be required to appear for the Lateral Entry Test (LET) conducted by the university.

CUSAT offers the following lateral entry B.Tech Programmes:

  • B.Tech. Civil Engineering
  • B.Tech. Computer Science Engineering
  • B.Tech. Electrical & Electronics Engineering
  • B.Tech. Electronics and Communication Engineering
  • B.Tech. Information Technology
  • B.Tech. Safety and Fire Engineering
  • B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering
  • B.Tech. Instrumentation Engineering
  • B.Tech. Polymer Science & Engineering

To apply, the candidates must register via the online application form available on the university website. The candidates must check the eligibility criteria before proceeding with the application form.

Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech(Lateral Entry) Programmes

BE/B.Tech

One must have a three-year Diploma in Engineering/Technology awarded by the Board of Technical Education recognized by the Department of Technical Education, Government of Kerala, with not less than 60% marks, will be considered for admission to the B.Tech. program through Lateral Entry Scheme.

The maximum age prescribed is 25 years as on 1st July of the year of admission.

The Candidates belonging to Kerala Scheduled Cast (KSC) and Kerala Scheduled Tribe (KST) communities are eligible for applying if they have minimum pass marks in the qualifying examinations.


How to apply for B.Tech(Lateral Entry) in CUSAT?

BE/B.Tech

To register, the candidates must visit the official CUSAT website. Candidates applying for B Tech Lateral Entry cannot select their choices of Branch, Seat category, etc., during the time of online submission of application.

How to apply?

The online application submission is a two-stage process.

Stage 1:

  • Fill in the basic personal details such as Name, DOB, email id, mobile number, etc.
  • After submitting the details, the User Id and password will be sent via mail and SMS.

Stage 2:

  • Login with the help of user id and password.
  • Enter all the other details required in the online registration form.
  • Upload your recent passport size color photograph and signature.

Required dimensions and size of photo & signature

For Photo: 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm with the file size between 4 KB and 100 KB
For Signature: 3.5 cm x 1.5 cm with a file size between 1 KB and 30 KB

Note: An additional fee of INR. 10,000/- is payable by candidates opting Dubai as Test Centre. 

Make Payment: Payment can be done through SBI/SBT Internet Banking or through Challan. Check the application status after two working days from the date of payment.


Selection Procedure

BE/B.Tech

For admission to B.Tech. Lateral Entry Course, the candidates must appear for the Lateral Entry Test.

Exam Pattern

There are 200 objective type questions designed to test the proficiency in the following fields-

  • English (20 questions)
  • Mathematics (50 questions)
  • Engineering Mechanics (40 questions)
  • Engineering Graphics (40 questions)
  • General Engineering (50 questions)

Duration: 3 hours duration
Maximum Marks: 600

There are two types of reservations in CUSAT, Cochin.

  • Special Reservations

Special Reservation:

Physically Challenged: 3% seats are  reserved for physically  challenged  candidates with at least 40% disability for all  B.Tech courses, except B.Tech Marine Engineering,  Mechanical  Engineering,  Naval  Architecture & Ship  Building,  Instrumentation, Polymer Science  & Engineering and Safety & Fire Engineering. One seat  each for all other academic programmes except  M.Sc. (Industrial Fisheries)  is reserved for physically  challenged candidates.

Blind: Reservation for Blind candidates is applicable only for MA (Hindi) and LLM programmes.

Note: Candidates belonging to states other than Kerala are not eligible for communal reservation.
