BIT Mesra Ph.D. Admissions 2020: Cut Off, Application Process, Fees

BIT Mesra invites Applications for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme under various specializations. The programme is available in both full time and part time mode. 

Applicants can apply from October 25 – November 25 for the BIT Mesra Ph.d Spring session. All the applications will be made online only at Submit the duly filled application form with the fee of INR 2500/- (General/OBC) and INR 1500/- (SC/ST) candidates.

Candidates will be called for the departmental admission test. This year test will be held on December 11. Candidates must carry a copy of the application form along with the supporting documents (Original as well as photocopy) during the admission test.

Selected candidates through test will have interview rounds on the same day. Those who are shortlisted after interview will be called for admission.

How To Apply

The Application Forms are to be filled online at the University website and submitted within the stipulated time. Candidate can use one application form for a particular department at a time. One can apply to a maximum of three departments only.

Step 1: Visit the University website and click on “Click Here to Apply Online”. A login page will open where you will see 2 options, to register or to login in case you have already registered.

Step 2: Register for the Application Form by filling in the required personal details and the programme you’re applying for. One must use the given username and password for login.

Step 3: Fill in the educational details and professional work experience details.

Step 4: Upload your recent colour passport size photograph which should not exceed 5kb in size.

Step 5: Save your Application for future changes or if you have completed the Application, click on “Lock and Submit Applications”.

Step 6: The candidate must click on the link ‘State Bank Collect’ for payment towards application fee of Rs. 2500 or general and OBC category and Rs. 1500 for SC/ST category, either through net banking, or a debit or credit card.

Step 7: You must then submit your Application Form and take a print out of the Application Form.

Eligibility: Candidates should fulfill any of the following conditions to be eligible to apply for admission in the departments as per their Specialization:

  • Candidates possessing M.Tech. / M.E. / M.Sc. (Engineering) / M.Arch. / M.Pharm / M.Sc. / MCA / MBA or equivalent Degree in relevant branch from a recognized University / Institute with minimum 60% marks or 6.0 CGPA on a ten point scale in the qualifying examination.
  • Candidates possessing B.Tech. / B.E./ B.Sc. (Engineering)/ B.Pharm / B.Arch. or equivalent Degree in relevant branch from a recognized University/ Institute with minimum 80% marks or 8.0 CGPA on a ten point scale in the qualifying examination and a valid GATE score with a minimum of 80 percentile.

Note: There shall be a relaxation of 5% marks in case of SC/ST candidates. In case of the candidates with other grade point scale, the decision of the equivalence committee of the Institute shall be final.


Admission Process

The selection to Ph.D. Programme will be based on performance in a Written Test, Previous academic record and an Interview.

The Ph.D. Entrance Test would consist of 2 parts:

  1. General Aptitude Test common to all applicants shall comprise of 50 questions from Analytical Ability and Logical Reasoning, and English, both having 25 each, to be answered in 60 minutes. The questions will be both subjective and objective carrying a total of 100 marks. There shall be negative marking with 0.5 marks being deducted for every wrong answer.
  2. Subject Specific Tests to examine basic fundamental knowledge in the subject also for one and a half hour.

The syllabi of the General Aptitude Test and the Subject Specific Tests for each Department can be seen on the Department web pages on the Institute website.

Only such candidates, who obtain the minimum required marks in Aptitude Test, Subject Specific Test and the indicated total percentage of marks, will be considered for final preparation of result as given below:

Exemptions: You will be exempted from writing the Entrance Test if you have qualified UGC-JRF, CSIR-NET, or any other national level test for pursuing Ph.D.


Candidates with qualifications acquired through correspondence or distance-learning programmes shall be eligible only if they fulfil any of the following condition:

  • If they acquired such qualifications as working professionals/while in employment.
  • If the programmes are recognized by the DEC-UGC-AICTE or MHRD.
  • If they have passed the qualifying examination at the time of applying, with minimum requisite marks as given in eligibility criteria.

They must enclose photocopies of work experience certificate and pass certificate and mark-sheets of qualifying examination with their application.
