National Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience (NIMHANS) is medical institute for patient care and academic pursuit in Bangalore. NIMHANS M.Phil. & Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

M.Phil (Neurosciences)

Candidates applying for M.Phil. in Neuroscience must have a degree in MBBS/ BE/ B.Tech Electronics/ Electrical/ Computer Science/ Biotechnology/ M.Sc in Physics/ Chemistry/ Biochemistry/ Anatomy/ Physiology/ Molecular Biology/ Genetics/ Biotechnology/ Zoology/ Life Science/ MA Psychology/ M.Sc Psychology from a recognized institute or university.

M.Phil (Neurophysiology)

Candidates applying for M.Phil. in Neurophysiology must have a degree in MBBS/ BAMS (Ayurveda)/ BDS/ M.Sc in Physiology/ Neuroscience/ Anatomy/ Biochemistry/ Zoology/ Biotechnology/ Life Science/ Molecular Biology/ Bachelors in Unani Medicine from a recognized institute or university.

M.Phil. (Biophysics)

Candidates applying for M.Phil. in Biophysics must have a degree in MBBS / B.Tech. in Biotechnology/ Electronics/ Computer Science/ M.Sc in Biophysics/ Physics/ Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Life Science/ Zoology/ Chemistry/ Physiology from a recognized institute or university.

M.Phil. (Clinical Psychology)

Candidates applying for M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology must have 2 years full time MA/ M.Sc. in Psychology/ Counseling Psychology/ Psychological Counseling/ Applied Psychology/ Clinical Psychology from a recognized institute or university.

M.Phil (Psychiatric Social Work)

Candidates applying for M.Phil. in Psychiatric Social Work must have 2 years full time MA/MSW degree in Social Work from a recognized institute of university.

Ph.D. (Clinical Nueroscience)

  • Candidates must have MBBS degree with not less than 55% of the marks of any University recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
  • The candidate must have completed satisfactorily one year compulsory rotating internship or its equivalent as recognized by the MCI after passing the final MBBS examination and must have full registration with a State Medical Council.

Ph.D. (Speech Pathology and Audiology)

Candidates must have a degree in M.Sc. in Speech Pathology & Audiology or M.Sc in Speech-Language Pathology or M.Sc. in Audiology from a recognized institute or university.

Ph.D. (Biostatistics)

Candidates applying for Ph.D. in Biostatistics must have a degree in M.Stat. (ISI)/M.Sc in Statistics/ Biostatistics/ Medical Statistics/ Health Statistics/ Agricultural Statistics from a recognized institute or university.

Ph.D. (Neurophysiology)

Candidates applying for Ph.D. in Neurophysiology must have a degree in M.Phil. in Neuroscience/ Neurophysiology/ MBBS/ MD in Physiology/ MD in Ayurveda/ BE/B.Tech. Electronics/ Electrical/ Computer Science/ Biotechnology/ M.Sc in Physiology/ Biochemistry/ Anatomy/ Neuroscience/ Life Science/ Biotechnology/ Zoology/ Masters in Physiotherapy/ Masters in Unani Medicine from a recognized institute or university.

Ph.D. (Biophysics)

Candidates must have a degree in M.Phil Biophysics/ Neuroscience/ MBBS/ M.Sc in Biophysics/ Physics/ Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Life Sciences/ Physiology from a recognized institute or university.

Ph.D. (Clinical Psychology)

Candidates applying for Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology must have 2 years full time Degree in MA/ M.Sc in Psychology/ Counseling Psychology/ Psychological Counseling/ Clinical Psychology/ Applied Psychology/ M.Phil degree in Mental Health and Social Psychology/ M.Phil in Clinical Psychology from a recognized institute or university.

Ph.D. (Psychiatric Social Work)

Candidates applying for Ph.D. in Psychiatric social work must have a 2 years full time Masters Degree in Social Work/ M.Phil. in Psychiatric Social Work from a recognized institute or university


NIMHANS M.Phil. & Ph.D. Application Procedure

M.Phil/Ph.D in Science

  1. The candidates willing to apply for the courses offered by NIMHANS can only apply online.
  2. The candidates will have to register on the university website to get the NIMHANS Application Form.
  3. Basic details and eligibility details should be filled correctly, any information if found incorrect may lead to rejection of the application.
  4. The candidates have to upload photographs, signatures and documents. After this, the candidates are required to make the payment and take the printout of the form.
  5. The submission of Declaration Form is mandatory. The Declaration Form should be downloaded, filled, signed, scanned and uploaded
  6. The application fee for candidates who fall under General category is Rs.1500/- and for candidates who fall under SC/ST category is Rs.1000/-.
  7. Only using Credit Card/ Debit Card or Online Transfer can make the payment.


NIMHANS M.Phil. & Ph.D. Admission Process

M.Phil/Ph.D in Science

  1. The selection of the candidates will be purely based on the scores in the Online NIMHANS Entrance Exam.
  2. The selected candidates will be called for the Counseling.
  3. The candidates will have to present the hard copy of the printed abstract of the application form along will the original certificates for verification.
  4. The candidates will have to choose their desired subjects in the counselling.
  5. The seats will be allotted on the basis of the reservation.

Ph.D. (Clinical Psychology) , Ph.D. (Neurophysiology) & Ph.D. (Psychiatric Social Work)

The candidates will have to attend an interview after the NIMHANS PhD Entrance Exam. The candidates must obtain minimum 50% marks in the interview.


Notes

  1. For non- medical the candidate must have secured 55 percent marks in the Master’s degree. 
  2. The candidates belonging to SC/ST category will be given a 5% relaxation in for non-medical and Ph.D. courses.
  3. The qualification degree specified in the above courses should be from a recognized institute or university.
  4. Candidates applying for medical courses must have a medical degree, which should be recognized by the Medical Council of India.
  5. The Sponsored/Deputed Candidates will be given a relaxation of 10 percent in the entrance examination for Post Doctoral Fellowship.
