Jadavpur University MCA Admissions 2019: Placement, Cut Off, Fees

Jadavpur University is a public state university located in Kolkata, West Bengal. It has two campuses: the main campus at Jadavpur and the new campus at Salt Lake.  It was upgraded to a full-fledged university in 1955. The University has its origin in the erstwhile National Council of Education.

Jadavpur University has been ranked within Top 10 Indian Research Institutions as per report of International Comparative Performance of India s Research Base (2009-14). It was Re-accredited by NAAC with a CGPA of 3.68 on a four point scale at A Grade for a period of five years in 2014.

The University invites applications for admission to the Master of Computer Application (MCA) Programme for the academic year. The programme is for a duration of three years and has an availability of 44 seats.  The admission to the programme will be based on the WB JECA i.e., West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination for MCA. The Application forms for this examination are usually available from the month of April and May. The reservation policy is as per the state government of West Bengal but shall require the candidates’ domicile to be in West Bengal only.

  • You should have passed the three years’ Bachelor’s Degree from any UGC recognised University with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate for general category and 45% marks for SC/ST category.
  • You should have passed AICTE recognised Bachelor of Computer Science degree from any University or Institute along with a minimum of 60% marks for general category and 45% marks for SC/ST category, in Mathematics.
  • You should have studied Mathematics in 10+2

Nationality: You should be an Indian national only.

How To Apply



You should fill the Application Form online on the official WBJEE website.

WB JECA Application Form will be broadly categorized into three steps-

  • Filling of personal details
  • Document uploading
  • Fee payment

You must fill in your Personal Details. You must be careful in filling this information. If there is any mistake, you will not be able to correct it later.

Document Uploading: You will then be directed to Document Uploading. You must upload all the images/documents in jpg/jpeg format. The page size of document should be in A4 format. You must upload the following documents in the size of 30kb to 300kb and images in the size of 10kb to 100 kb:

  1. Recent coloured Passport sized Photograph
  2. Left Thumb Impression (LTI)
  3. Own Signature
  4. Admit card of 10th standard examination for Age Proof
  5. Caste certificate (if applicable)
  6. Domicile Certificate
  7. PWD Certificate (if applicable)

Application Fee: Once the documents are successfully uploaded, the system will enter into the Fee Payment. You can pay the Application Fee of INR 600 + Bank Service Charges either by Debit Card/Credit Card or by Allahabad Bank Challan.

This completes your registration process. You can take a print out of the Confirmation Page after final submission of the Application for future references. There is no need to send any document by post.

Admission Process


You will be selected on the basis of WB JECA i.e., West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination MCA Admissions.

The exam will be of a duration of three hours, and will be conducted in Computer Based Test mode. It will consists of two papers. For first two hours, only Paper 1 will remain enabled and during the last hour, only Paper 2 will remain enabled.

Paper 1 will consist of questions from Mathematics. It will carry a total of 100 marks with 50 multiple choice based questions, with 2 marks awarded for every correct answer. There shall be negative marking with 0.5 marks being deducted for every incorrect answer. The syllabus will consist of the following topics: Analytical Geometry, Algebra, Calculus and Probability and Statistics.

Paper 2 will be an Aptitude Test. There will be 30 questions of 3 marks each and 10 questions of 1 mark each. It will carry a total of 100 marks. There shall be negative marking with 0.25 marks being deducted for every incorrect answer. The syllabus will consist of the following topics: Reasoning, Problem Solving, Quantitative Comparison, Discrete Quantitative Analysis and Data Interpretation.


The reservation benefits can be availed only by candidates domiciled in West Bengal. There are certain guidelines that they need to follow to claim the WBJEE Reservation.

For SC/ST Category:

The aforementioned certificates, which are required to be submitted, should have been issued by any of the following authorities:

The various officers/authorities of Kolkata that issue the certificate to prove the WBJEE Reservation of the candidate are mentioned below:

  1. Deputy Collector of Land Revenue, Kolkata
  2. Collector of Stamp Revenue, Kolkata
  3. Metropolitan Magistrate, Kolkata
  4. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Kolkata
  5. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Kolkata
  6. 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate
  7. Executive Magistrate
  8. Sub divisional Magistrate
  9. Sub-divisional Officer
  10. Deputy Collector
  11. Additional District Magistrate
  12. Collector
  13. District Magistrate within their respective local jurisdictions – if candidates reside ordinarily within such jurisdictions.

For OBC – A and OBC – B category:

District Welfare Officer, Kolkata and Ex-officio Joint Director, BCW act as the certificate issuing authority for Kolkata covering the Kolkata Municipal Corporation jurisdiction.

For claiming OBC-A/ OBC-B quota, the required certificates, issued by aforementioned authorities, should be uploaded and issued on a date prior to the actual online application submission.
