Jamia Millia Islamia was established in 1920 by Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar, Shaikhul Hind Maulana Mahmud Hasan, Hakim Ajmal Khan, Shri A.M. Khwaja, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Ansari, Dr. Zakir Husain, etc. at Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh). Jamia Millia Islamia offers various research programs offered in M.Phil. and Ph.D. courses. The research programs require the candidates to hold a Master’s Degree as the basic requirement.
The admission is based on entrance test conducted by JMI for each course. The test is also followed by an interview. Application forms are available on the University's website. They are to be filled and submitted online only. The seats indicated for each course are the maximum seats. About 50% of the seats are reserved for Muslim categories. The eligibility for all the specializations of Ph.D. program is as follows:
Eligibility: The candidates who seek admission to a doctoral program must have a Second class Master’s Degree or an equivalent Degree with at least 55% aggregate marks in the subject in which the candidate wants to pursue his/her research or in an allied subject.
All candidates who seek admission to any of the JMI's offered courses have to appear for an Entrance Test that is conducted by JMI. The entrance test is followed by an interview. The decided syllabus along with the admit cards of the registered students are made available on the University's website.
The admission test for Ph.D. courses will be done for shortlisting candidates for consideration by the Board of Studies/ Committee of Studies. Qualifying in the entrance test would not give any right to admission to the candidate. The test will have two parts. The first part will be of one hour and will contain 50 MCQs. The second part will be two hours long and have 50 MCQs and 50 subjective questions.

Candidates have to fill the application form before the deadlines prescribed by the university. Student first have to register themselves on the official website by visiting “Admission Portal”. if a candidate has already registered then, they may direcly login and proceed to the application form.
