IIM Calcutta PGDM Admissions 2019: Eligibility, Placement, Fees

IIM Calcutta is one of the top most institutions of India for management education. This institute strives to equip the students with respect to today’s scenario to face upcoming challenges in tomorrow. IIM Calcutta offers a two year full-time residential program in management, Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGP-PGDM).This program is committed to develop business fundamentals in areas of marketing, finance, Economics & Operations management. 

Candidates with bachelor degree along with at least 50% marks in aggregate from a recognized institution or university can only apply for PGP PGDM at the institute. Students must also possess valid CAT (GMAT for foreign nationals) score in order to be eligible for admission to IIM-C MBA program.

There are two ways for admissions to the PGP PGDM: one for Indian students and the other is for overseas candidates. The admission proceedings and application processes for both are different. Final selection of a candidate will depend on CAT score, Academic weightage, Academic Diversity Factor for Bachelor Degree (ADFB) & Performance in WAT & PI.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must possess the minimum qualification in order to apply for CAT  as discussed below:

  1. Candidate should have completed their Bachelor’s degree program in any stream from a recognized university or should have an equivalent qualification which is recognized by the Ministry of HRD, India.
  2. The minimum percentage required in Bachelor’s degree for appearing in CAT  is 50% for General and NC-OBC candidates. For other candidates who fall in the reserved categories, the minimum aggregate percentage required in Bachelor program is 45%.
  3. For candidates who are awarded grades or CGPA, the conversion of grades or CGPA will be according to the process certified by the University or Institute.
  4. Candidates in the final year of the program or awaiting their result can also apply. In such cases, a candidate will have to submit a certificate issued by Principal/Registrar of the College/Institution. The certificate should state that the candidate has successfully completed the requirements of the course.

Note 1: A recognized university is one which is constituted by an act of the Central or State Legislature. It also includes any university or institute which is established by an act of Parliament or is declared as Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act of 1956.

Note 2: In case of Universities which award grades or CGPA, but do not have a procedure for conversion of grades to percentage, the equivalent percentage will be calculated by the given process:

(Candidate’s CGPA/Maximum CGPA)  X 100 = Equivalent Percentage

How to Apply

Post Graduate Diploma in Management [PGDM]

Students seeking admission to MBA program at IIMC should apply through official CAT website. The registration fee is INR 1700/- (For General and NC-OBC candidates) and INR 850/- (For SC/ST/ OBC candidates).

For admission to IIM Calcutta, candidates will have to select the name of program offered at the institutes as per their preference. Along with the preference for program, candidates also have to enter their choice of city for interview.

Selection Process

Post Graduate Diploma in Management [PGDM]

PGP-PGDM is a two year full time residential program. This course involves a mandatory credit based curriculum & a non-credit based mandatory summer internship. Criteria for shortlisting & final selection for PGP-PGDM is discussed as:

  • Shortlisting criteria for Personal Interview (PI): Students will be selected on the basis of CAT  score and past academic performance.

STAGE 1: Includes the basic criteria to be considered for PI:

Candidates are required to obtain minimum sectional cutoff in order to score optimum marks.

Candidates, who will score minimum desired marks in above mentioned sections, will only be shortlisted for further calculation of composite score.

Note: Students must keep in mind that actual sectional marks may be much higher than the minimum marks listed above, as shortlisting for PI is done on the basis of individual composite score.

Calculation of Composite score for STAGE I:

Composite score will be calculated on the basis of marks of class Xth, XIIth& gender diversity factor. Marks will be optimized on the basis of rules given below:

In order to compute the percentage of marks for Xth & XIIth standard, authorities will consider all the subjects mentioned on the marks sheet issued by the board irrespective of whether the board has considered those subjects for percentage calculation or not.

Composite score will be used to shortlist the candidates for PI round. Below listed table is presenting the idea to calculate corresponding category wise weightage.

*Students with any of the graduation degree will be considered for admission: BA, BA (H), B.Sc, B.Sc.(H), BS, B.Com, B.Com(H), BCA, BBA, B.Pharm, LL.B, MBBS, BDS or any other Non-Engineering degree, which are not mentioned above.

In case of work experience, maximum 4 points will be awarded (depending on the duration of service).  Only managerial work experience will be considered after degree, no other project work, training or work in academic department will be considered.

For Overseas Candidates

Admission Policy for Overseas candidates

Students, living or working outside India will be considered as overseas candidate. However, those candidates who are expected to be in India in during the period of CAT  will not be eligible to apply under overseas category.

Shortlisting criteria for PI:

At this stage equivalent GMAT percentile will be calculated corresponding to its CAT score. At second stage, composite score will be calculated in the same manner as for CAT aspirants. Shortlisted students are required to appear for PI & WAT at IIMC during February-March. Interviews will be conducted at Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai & New-Delhi only.

Application Process:

Students are required to apply through the official website of the institute in which he/she want to take admission. Documents required to be uploaded along with the application are:

  1. Copy of latest GMAT score
  2. Attested copies of Academic marks sheet
  3. Copy of passport pages (with all entries)
