Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) Ph. D Admission 2020: Courses, Application Form, Fees

Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences was established in the year 1887 which was a result of the amalgamation of Hyderabad school and Madarsa-i-Aliya. Nizam’s is the most reputed and oldest institution imparting higher education in South India. Nizam’s was affiliated to the Madras University for around 60 years and after that it was made a Constituent College of Osmania University on February 19th in the year 1947.

NIMS offers various courses and invites application for Ph. D courses for the year. NIMS University offers Ph. D courses under regular mode only. Students will be selected on the basis of the merit in an entrance examination which is administered by the University “NIMS University M. Phil./ Ph. D Admission Test (NIMS MPAT).

The candidates, who have already passed NET/JRF/GATE/SLET/M. Phil exam, do not have to give the entrance exam that is conducted by NIMS University. The University does not provide distance education courses under M. Phil./Ph. D courses. Check NIMS Admission

How To Apply

  • You are required to click on the following link in order to apply for the Ph. D courses:
  • Next you are required to fill in all the essential fields and provide the correct information as asked.
  • After filling in all the details you are required to press the submit button in order to submit the application.
  • You will then be required to take a print out of the filled application form.
  • The application form that you have downloaded from the website, has to be sent to “Registrar, NIMS University, Shobha Nagar, Jaipur Delhi Highway (NH-11C), Jaipur- 303121, Rajasthan”.
  • Along with the hardcopy of the application form that has been downloaded from the website, you have to send two recent passport size photographs, and a Demand Draft of INR 2,500/- which has to be drawn in favour of NIMS University and will be payable at Jaipur.


Candidates applying for Ph.D. in NIMS must have the following:

  • Post graduate degree in Life Sciences subjects.
  • Candidate should have appeared in any of the following exam: CSIR/UGC JRF-NET or ICMR Junior research Fellowship or screening test conducted by the university.

Note: For part time Ph.D. program the candidates need to show a Memorandum of Understanding between the collaborating organisation and NIMS.

Qualification for Guides:

Eligibility for Internal Guides is as follows:

Professors at NIMS and senior faculty members with a degree in DM/ M.Ch/DNB/MD/MS or Ph.D. are eligible to be Guides for Ph.D. candidates.

They should also fulfil the following criteria:

  • Not less than 15 years’ experience in teaching or research.
  • At least 3 paper articles publish as first author and at least 5 paper articles published as co-author.

Eligibility for External Guides:

The external guides must have:

  • MOU with recognised institutions only.
  • Not less than 10 years of experience as a faculty                
  • At least 3 paper articles publish as first author and at least 5 paper articles published as co-author in indexed journals. (National/International Index journals)


Following are the points of reservation which the university follows:

  1. 85% seats are reserved for local candidates and the remaining 15% seats are reserved for both local and non-local candidates.
  2. BC (A): 7%, BC (B): 10%, BC (C): 1%, BC (D): 7%, BC (E): 4%, ST: 6% and SC: 15%. Total 50% seats are reserved for the BC/SC/ST.
  3. 33.3% seats are reserved for women candidates in each course available.
  4. 5% seats are available for the NIQ Quota
  5. 60% seats are available for the students who had commerce as a subject and are seeking admission in B.Com. Rest of the 40% seats are reserved for both the commerce and non-commerce streams.
  6. Reservation is given to the candidates falling in the category that includes NCC: 2%, Games and Sports: 2%, Extra-curricular activities: 1%, Children of Ex-servicemen and Armed Personnel: 1% and physically challenged: 3%.
  7.  1 seat is reserved for In-service candidate of NIMS provided the candidate must qualify the entrance exam/ requisite qualification.

Admission Process

The selection of the candidates will be on the basis of the merit list of the entrance exam followed by an interview which is conducted by the university. The final assessment and interview may last for two or more days. Candidates are advised to discuss their interest of area for research. The candidates will be selected in accordance to the availability of seats in the course or program.

Every selected candidate has to pass the medical test which will state that the candidate is medically fit for getting admission. The candidates whose medical report will state that he/she is medically unfit will not be selected for admission in any respect.
