Jamia Millia Islamia was established in 1920 by Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar, Shaikhul Hind Maulana Mahmud Hasan, Hakim Ajmal Khan, Shri A.M. Khwaja, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Ansari, Dr. Zakir Husain, etc. at Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh). The campus was shifted to Delhi in 1925. The University got its 'deemed' status in 1962.

JMI offers various UG and PG courses to the candidates. M.Tech, MBA and MCA programs are offered at PG level for which admission is done on the basis of JMI Entrance test followed by interview.

Minimum eligibility for M.Tech is B.Tech/BE degree in relevant discipline with minimum 60% marks. For MBA, candidate must pass in any Bachelor’s degree with minimum 50% marks. For MCA, candidate must pass in BCA/ B.Sc. (IT/CS)/Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline with minimum 50% marks.

The university provides M.Tech. in Regular as well as Part time mode in various specializations.

M.Tech offered by JMI in Regular mode is as follows:

M.Tech. (Earthquake Engineering)Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with minimum 60% marks.
M.Tech. (Computer Engineering)Bachelor’s Degree in Computer/Computer Science/Information Technology OR MCA/M.Sc. (Computer Science)/ M.Sc. (IT)/ M.Sc. (IMCA) with minimum 60 marks
M.Tech. (Electrical Power System and Management)Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with minimum 60% marks.
M.Tech. (Control and Instrumentation System)Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation and Control, or Electronics & Communication Engineering with at least 60% marks
M.Tech. (Electronics and Communication Engineering)Bachelor's Degree in Electronics/ Electronics and Communication /Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering with at least 60% marks
M.Tech. (Mechanical Engineering)First Class Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Production, Automobile, or Manufacturing and Automation Engineering.

Key Note:

  • M.Tech. Mechanical Engineering is offered in further three specializations which are: Machine Design (6 Seats), Thermal Engineering (6 Seats) and Production and Industrial Engineering (6 Seats).
  • Students must have minimum 6.75 points in a 10 scale grade, if they wish to apply for M.Tech. program.

JMI offers M.Tech in Environmental Science and Engineering in part time mode and M.Tech in Nanotechnology as a self-financed course.

M.Tech. (Environmental Science and Engineering)

(i) Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Metallurgical, Mining, and Agricultural Engineering with minimum 60% marks.

(ii) Candidate should have minimum two years of industrial or field experience in the area of Environmental/Pollution Control Technology after passing qualifying examination.

M.Tech. (Nanotechnology)Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/ Mechanical/Electronics & Communication/ Computer Engg. /Instrumentation with minimum 60% marks OR M.Sc. degree in Physics / Chemistry (with Mathematics up to Graduation level) / Electronics/ Material Science / Electronic Instrumentation with minimum 55 % marks.

Note:  For M.Tech in Environmental Science and Engineering, in service candidate with 70% marks or above in qualifying examination are also eligible to apply.



JMI offers MBA in Full-time, Executive (Self-Financed) and International Business (Self-Financed) courses for a duration of two-year.

MBA (Full-time)Candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks aggregate.
MBA (International Business)
MBA ExecutiveBachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks aggregate with atleast three-year of working experience.

Note: For MBA Executive, candidates must also have at least three-year of professional experience in Executive level in Government and Private sector including Public Limited/Private Limited Company/ P.S.U/M.N.C/ M.N.E/3 Wings of Armed forces.


Bachelor’s degree in Science /Natural Science/Social Science/Engineering/Technology with minimum 50% marks in aggregate with Mathematics as one of the subjects at 10+2 or higher level OR BCA/B.Sc. (IT/CS) with minimum 50% marks.

How To Apply


Candidates have to fill the application form from the official website of JMI through online mode.

  • Visit the official website of the JMI and register at online admission portal.
  • Next, fill the form while choosing the program, category followed by submission of entrance exam fees.
  • Pay the fees via credit/debit card or net banking.

Application Fees: INR 700

Note: When paying through debit/credit card, do not press back/refresh or close the window during the payment as it can cancel the payment.

Admission Process


  • The selection is based on the rank/marks scored by the candidate in an entrance test conducted by JMI.
  • The entrance test may or may not be followed by an interview.
  • The candidates have to score at least 40% marks to be eligible for selection.
  • A list of selected and waitlisted candidates will be available on JMI's notice board as well as on their official website.
  • The selected candidates will be given a date to appear for the admission formalities.
  • The selected candidates are required to bring the admit cards of the entrance test, along with originals and self-attested copies of the following documents:
  1. Proof of passing qualifying exam along with mark sheets.
  2. 10+2 or equivalent exam's mark sheet
  3. Age proof (High School/Senior Secondary School's mark sheet)
  4. Proof of entitlement to any reserved category (if applicable)
  5. Character Certificate from the last attended institute
  6. Certificate from M.B.B.S. doctor/Govt. Hospital certifying blood group
  7. In case of gap period, certificate from class –1 gazetted officer to certify no indulgence in criminal behaviour
  8. Proof of address along with name and location of nearest police station
  9. Certificate of No Objection by current employer (for evening/part-time/Sponsored courses)

Note: Self-employed candidates have to show authentic evidence of self-employment.
