The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) offers admission to Ph.D. Program in the field of Economics and Management. Candidates can apply for both Full Time and Part Time Ph.D. Program.

Application Form and Brochure can be downloaded from the college website.

Application Form can be filled and submitted to the Institute along with a Demand Draft of INR 2,500 (INR 1,250 for SC/ST candidates and US$120/ INR 8,500 for Foreign Nationals) in favor of Indian Institute of Foreign Trade payable at New Delhi.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for applying in the IIFT’s Ph.D. program are the following:

Indian Scholars

  • Ph.D. in Economics (Full Time)

Master’s degree/M.Phil. Degree in Economics with at least 55% marks.

  • Ph.D. in Management (Full Time)

Master’s degree/M.Phil. Degree in any discipline (including IIFT MPIB) with at least 55% marks.

                                                       Or

  1. Diploma courses which are considered equivalent to Master’s Degree with 55% marks recognized by AICTE/UGC would be considered.
  2. In such cases, candidates would be required to produce the necessary certificate(s) from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
  • Ph.D. in Management (Part Time)
  1. Master’s degree/M.Phil. Degree in any discipline (including IIFT MPIB) with at least 55% marks.
  2. In such cases candidates would be required to produce the necessary certificate(s) from Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
  3. A minimum of three years relevant experience in Teaching /Research / Industry is required.

Note: A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50% may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/ OBC/differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the University Grants Commission (UGC) from time to time.

Overseas Scholars

  1. Overseas candidates those who are having Master’s/ M.Phil. Degree with at least 55% marks can apply only for IIFT’s full time Ph.D. program.
  2. Minimum knowledge of spoken and written English is essential.

Selection Process

  • Ph.D. in Economics (Full Time)

Written Entrance Test, comprising of Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Statistics, Econometrics & Mathematics (at least up to Graduate Level) and the Descriptive Test to judge the writing skill of candidates on a subject-specific contemporary issue.

  • Ph.D. in Management (Full Time & Part Time)

Written Entrance Test, comprising of Basic Statistics, Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation, basic Mathematics (up to 12th Standard) and the Descriptive Test to judge the writing skill of candidates on a subject-specific contemporary issue.

Note: Written Entrance Test is a screening test.

Candidates who would qualify in the Written Entrance Test will be called for the Interview.

How to Apply

  • The candidates can download/ obtain the application form from the website.
  • Submit the same to the Institute along with a Demand Draft of INR 2,500/- (INR 1,250/- in respect of SC/ST candidates and US $120/ INR 8,500/- for Foreign Nationals) in favor of Indian Institute of Foreign Trade payable at New Delhi.

Documents required:

  • Copy of the “Statement of Purpose” for the proposed Ph.D. Program, clearly indicating the Research Interest/Discipline/Area objective, etc. (4-5 pages).
  • Self-Attested copies of certificates & mark-sheets of qualifying degrees and other certificates (from SSC level).
  • One passport size color photograph (to be affixed on Application Form).
  • Two letters of recommendation (in the format provided in the Application Form).
  • At least one example of scholarly research or professional writing. (Preferable)
  • SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/PWD category certificate.
