Calicut University PG Admissions 2019: Eligibility, Fees, Application Dates

University of Calicut offers 24 undergraduate 22 postgraduate programs. Calicut University also offers full time and part time M.Phil. & Research programs. There are 28 postgraduate teaching and research departments.

Admission to the PG Programmes in University Teaching Departments (including PG programs to which admission is based on entrance examinations) will be conducted through the Centralized Admission Process (PG CAP) of Calicut University. Eligible candidates will be offered admission on the basis of marks obtained in the Entrance examination conducted by the University. Applicants can register themselves for the examination on the university website by remitting the applicaton fees of INR 650.  Read more: Calicut University Admission 2019.

Note: Non-English candidates applying for MA English, admission will be based on Entrance Test.

Eligibility Criteria:

MA (Other Languages): 45% in Part II Languages concerned of BA/BSc or 45% in the language main papers in the case of candidates with concerned languages under Part III Pattern I or 45% in language main papers in the case of candidates with the concerned language under Part III Pattern II.  A weightage of 5% marks shall be added in the case of those who have taken concerned language under Part III.

MA (Other Non-Languages): Minimum marks prescribed for admission to other non-language subjects is 45% in Part III Optional subjects of BA/B.Sc.

Master of Arts [MA] (English)

At least 45% marks at graduation level.  Applicants will be ranked according to the percentage of marks in part I English or Part III.  A weightage of 10% marks shall be added in the case of those who have taken English under Part III.

Master of Arts [MA] (Economics)

45% marks in BA Economics, Foreign Trade, Development Economics or 70% marks in B.Sc Statistics, Mathematics. A maximum of 30% of the total seats only will be given to the B.Sc candidates.

Master of Arts [MA] (Sociology) , Master of Arts [MA] (History) & Master of Arts [MA] (Philosophy)

Graduation with a minimum of 45% marks in Part III optional subjects.

Master of Arts [MA] (Folklore Studies)

Bachelor degree with a minimum of 45% marks from recognized by the UGC/ Calicut University. Those who are having post graduation are also eligible for admission. Appearing in the entrance test conducted by university is mandatory for this program.

M.Sc & M.Sc (Medicine)

Eligibility Criteria for M.Sc. programs:

A B.Sc. Degree in relevant field with at least 50% marks except for M.Sc Bio-Technology (55% marks)  and M.Sc. General Bio-Technology  (55% marks).

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Computer Science)

At least  55% of mark or equivalent grade in BSc.(Computer Science or Information Technology or Electronics or Physics or Mathematics or Statistics or Chemistry.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (General Biotechnology)

A bachelor degree (10+2+3) with 55% marks in Biotechnology, Bio-informatics, Biochemistry, MicroBiology, Botany, Zoology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Chemistry, Bsc. Agriculture, B.V.Sc, B.Pharm, Life Sciences of the University or any other equivalent Degree approved by the University.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Food Science and Technology)

At least 50% marks in Part III Optional in any B.Sc Degree and approved by this University with Mathematics as one of the optional subjects in +2 or B.Sc.Level.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Psychology)

Candidates who have opted Psychology as one of the papers in Degree Part III either Main or Sub.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Medical Radiation Physics)

Bachelor degree in Physics with 60% marks under regular stream of Study (10+2+3) of University of Calicut or any other University/Institution.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Health and Yoga Therapy)

Graduate degree in Medical Sciences,MBBS, BAMS, BHMS/ Graduate degree in Biological Sciences or any other Sciences/Humanities and Commerce graduate. A minimum of 45% mark should be obtained in selection test.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Clinical Psychology)

Bachelor's Degree recognized by this University with at least 50% marks in BA/B.Sc. Psychology/ MBBS/BHMS/ BAMS/ B.Sc. Nursing Degree/Bachelor's Degree with Psychology as one of the main or Subsidiary papers.

Master of Technology [M.Tech] (Nano Science and Technology)

Calicut University offers two-year M.Tech. Nano Science and Technology program. The university conducts an entrance exam for admission to this programme.

Eligibility Criteria:

M.Sc. degree in Nano Science and Technology/ Physics/ Applied Physics/Materials Science/ Chemistry or Applied Chemistry/ Polymer Chemistry with a minimum of 55% of aggregate marks. Relaxation in marks for SC/ST or other eligible communities will be given as per rules.


Bachelor's degree in Education with at least 55% Marks of University of Calicut or other Universities recognized by Calicut University. 5% relaxation in marks will be allowed in the case of SEBC candidates and minimum pass is required for SC/ST candidates.


Bachelor’s Degree Course of minimum three years duration with Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects with at least 50% marks in aggregate. Appear in entrance test conducted by university is mandatory for this programme.


A Bachelor Degree with not less than 50% marks in aggregate from a recognized University is mandatory.

Application Process

MA , M.Sc & M.Sc (Medicine)

Admission to the PG Programmes in University Teaching Departments (including PG programmes to which admission is based on entrance examinations) will be conducted through Centralized Admission Process. The process to register for a  program is given below, check:

  1. Remit a fee of INR 650/- (SC/ST INR 440)  to Calicut University Fund by e-payment (SBI online/SBI e-chalan/Friends/Akshaya e-chalan).
  2. Pay an additional fee of INR 50 for each additional programme.
  3. Please click the link "Fee remittance" in the Admission Website ( or the link "Instant Web Payment System" in the Official Website of the University ( for remitting fee.
  4. Apply online (from 04.07.2019 to 08.07.2019) through the website
  5. Click on the link ' Entrance Courses '.
  6. Enter CAP IDnumber and pass word and complete the registration process. (Last date for remittance of registration fee : 08.07.2019 3.00 PM).
  7. After completion of the online registration, the candidate should take printout of the same and keep it.
  8. The hard copy of the online application with supporting documents should be kept by the candidate and it has to be submitted at the time of admission to respective departments/affiliated colleges.
  9. The CAP ID. No. is mandatory for downloading hall tickets for the entrance examinations. This I.D.No should also be kept and mentioned by the candidate in all future communications

Note: The ethnic native Lakshadweep candidates are exempted from the entrance examinations based on the sponsorship letter from theLakshadweep Administration.

Selection Procedure

MA , M.Sc & M.Sc (Medicine)

Selection Process of PG Programmes in University Teaching Departments (excluding PG programmes to which admission is based on entrance examinations) will be based on merit list.

Master of Arts [MA] (Folklore Studies) , Master of Science [M.Sc] (Computer Science) & Master of Science [M.Sc] (General Biotechnology)

Admission to these courses will be based on the marks secured in an entrance examination conducted by the University among the eligible candidates.


The selection process will be done on the basis of the entrance exam conducted by the university.

Reservation of Seats

Physically Handicapped: For PG programmes, There will be 3 % of seats reserved for physically Handicapped candidates. The candidates having minimum 40% disability certified by the Medical Board.

Sports Quota: Out of every 20 seats in PG Courses one seat will be reserved for outstanding sportspersons.
