BCKV M.Sc., M.Tech. and Ph.D. Admission 2020: Merit List, Entrance Exam, Placement

Bidhan Chandra Krishi Vishwavidyalya (BCKV) is a state university devoted to education and research in the field of agriculture and horticulture. The University is affiliated to UGC and ICAR. Apart from the educational campus at Mohanpur, West Bengal, BCKV has three regional research station and three regional research substations. Its favourable location allows the university to conduct research in different agro-climatic zones of Bengal.

BCKV offers both Master and Doctoral degree programs through its three faculties of Agriculture, Horticulture, and Agricultural Engineering. The application process for PG programs begins by the end of June every year. In case of PhD programs, the application process is conducted in July.

For admission to both PG and PhD courses, the university holds an entrance examination. The entrance examination is conducted by each of the departments separately. Based on the merit in entrance exam, candidates are called for counselling and are allotted seats as per the choice of the candidate and availability of seats. Check BCKV Admission

How to Apply

The application process for both PG and PhD courses is online. Candidates can fill their application forms by following the steps given below:

  1. Visit the BCKV official website.  
  2. Click on “Admission” and choose “PG/Ph.D Admission”.
  3. Fill in the On-line Application Form carefully with all the details by clicking on "START FORM FILL-UP" button
  4. Upload JPG/JPEG file format- Photograph & Signature.
  5. Submit the application fee via online payment (Debit Card/Net Banking/RuPay) /Off-line (e-Challan generation) mode.

Note: Off-line payment of application can be done at any branch of United Bank of India (UBI).

  1. After successful payment of application fee one SMS will be sent automatically by the system at your mobile phone containing the Application No. and transaction details.
  2. Application process is completed after successful submission of application fee.
  3. Candidate must download application form and admit card and keep a copy of the same for future reference.

Application fee for Master and Doctoral Programs

  • The application fee for Master’s degree admission (General/OBC category): Rs. 800.00
  • For Doctoral Degree admission (General/OBC category): Rs. 1000.00
  • For Master’s degree admission (SC, ST & PH): Rs. 200.00
  • For Doctoral Degree admission (SC & ST category): Rs. 250.00

Eligibility

M.Sc. (Agriculture/Horticulture)/ M.Tech (Agriculture)

  • Candidates  must  have  passed  Higher  Secondary  or  equivalent  examination  (10+2)  in General stream or allied or vocational stream with at least 50 % marks FOR GEN/OBC(40% in case of SC/ST/PH) in aggregate
  • Candidates must have hold of 4-year Bachelor Degree in Agriculture/ Horticulture/Agricultural Engineering with minimum 60 % marks or   minimum Overall Grade Point Average (OGPA) of 6.60/10.00 in ten-point scale or 3.25/5.00 in five-point scale or 2.60/4.00 in four-point scale for General and OBC categories.
  • Candidates belonging to the categories of SC/ST/PH minimum 50 % marks or minimum OGPA of at least 5.60/10.00, 2.75/5.00, or 2.20/4.00.
  • The  engineering graduates of other disciplines can apply in the respective departments viz Civil Engineering for the Dept. of Soil & Water Engineering/Mechanical Engineering for the Dept. of Farm Machinery & Power/Chemical/ Biochemical Engineering for the Dept. of Food Engineering.
  • Candidates whose final year result is awaited are eligible to apply provided they fulfil the eligibility criteria

Note: Minimum marks for being eligible for M. Tech. Admission accepted by WBJEE Board shall be accepted/considered.

Reservation of Seats

  • All the P.G. and Ph.D. seats will be filled up by the domicile students of West Bengal state (EXCEPTING ICAR SEATS).
  • The  non-domicile students will be considered  for admission  in  the unfilled  seats  at  different  departments
  • The SC/ST/OBC candidates who are domicile of West Bengal will get the benefit of reservation.

ICAR’s nominees will be considered as per prevailing rules.

Selection Process

Candidates are selected on the basis of the merit in the common entrance test followed by counselling. The entrance exam will be objective in nature. The questions will be subject-specific and test a candidates knowledge of research methodologies and their specific subject area.

After the result of the entrance exam is declared, each department will call candidates for counselling based on merit in the examination. The candidates must carry the following documents for counselling session:

  1. The entire Mark-sheet & Age-proof certificate (Madhyamik admit card).
  2. SC/ST & OBC-A & OBC-B certificates from the competent authority.
  3. Domicile Certificate issued by the Competent Authority (Chairman, Municipality/Pradhan, Gram Panchayat /B.D.O. / S.D.O.).
  4. Voter’s Identity Card issued by the Election Commission in favour of the candidate or his parent (if any).
  5. Blood Electrophoresis (Thalassemia) test report.
  6. 2 (two) copies of recent colour passport size photograph.
  7. The attested copy of  recent (not more than 6 months old) Medical Certificate from proper authority (Sub-divisional Medical Officer/Superintendent of State Hospital or above) for physically handicapped persons along with CERTIFICATE FROM AN OPTHAMOLOGIST (Original Copy) to rule out Refractive Errors & Colour blindness.
  8. NOC in case of employed candidates( such candidates must  submit an approved letter of leave for a required  period issued by his/her employer within three (3) months from the date of admission, failing which his/her admission will be treated as cancelled without any further notification)

Important Note:

  • Candidates must produce his/her admit card for getting entry in the Counselling Hall
  • Candidates should submit the photocopy of Grade Card/Mark Sheet of H.S. other qualifying degree (B.Sc./M.Sc./B.Tech/M.Tech) examinations /admit card and two passport size photographs on the date of admission test. If a candidate fails to submit these documents on the day of examination, their candidature will be cancelled.

Scholarships:

Scholarships are granted to the deserving candidates based on the merit in the entrance examination and the schemes of GOI/state government. Various fellowships and grants are available for doctoral degree candidates.

Non-domicile students are not eligible for University Scholarship.
