IARI Ph.D. Admission 2019

Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), more commonly known as Pusa Institute, is located in Delhi, India. The Institute was established in 1905 and is administrated by the ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research).

At the doctoral level, IARI offers Ph.D. courses in 26 varied disciplines of Agricultural field. The applications for Doctoral degree begin in the month of February followed by an entrance examination in April.

Candidates applying for Ph.D. must have a Master’s degree of M.Sc/ M.Tech or ME in the relevant field of agriculture. Admission will be granted based on the performance in the written entrance test and interview conducted by IARI as well as academic record in 10+2,

Eligibility

M.Phil/Ph.D in Agriculture

Candidates applying for Ph.D. must fulfill the following conditions:

  • Bachelor's Degree under 10+2+4 or 10+2+3 or 10+1+4 system or B.Sc degree under 10+2+2 system.
  • M.Sc./ M.Sc. (Ag.)/ M.Tech/ ME degree with at least 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ ST/ PC candidates)
  • Candidate should be at least 21 years old as on July 31, 2018.

Key Points:

  1. Candidates seeking admission under Open Scheme must meet the above eligibility criteria. However, an in-service candidate of Agricultural Universities seeking admission under Faculty Up-gradation Scheme (FUS), in addition to the above requirements, need to be a regular employee of the University.
  2. Candidates must also be willing to continue in service after obtaining the degree. They also need to be sponsored on deputation terms. The status "Sponsored for Admission Under FUS" should be clearly mentioned on the application form.
  3. An applicant under ICAR in-service Nominee scheme, in addition to the requirements listed above, should be an ICAR employee. He/she must also have qualified the ICAR Senior Fellowship Examination with or without any Fellowship. The status "Sponsored for Admission Under Reserved Seats for ICAR Employees" should be mentioned on the Application form and the forwarding letter.
  4. Applicants under the Departmental Quota should be working in the IARI/ IASRI/ NBPGR/ MRCPB's Scientific or Technical Staff.
  5. Students appearing in their Master's Degree final year examination can also apply for admission and appear for the entrance. However, they must prove their eligibility on or before June 30, 2018.


How to Apply:

M.Phil/Ph.D in Agriculture

Students seeking admission to the Ph.D. course need to apply only through the online admission portal. They can apply for admission in only one discipline. They must follow the subsequent steps to apply for Ph.D.:

  1. Visit the Ph.D. online admission portal of IARI.
  2. Click on ‘Register Here’ for new registration.
  3. Fill the required details and then on ‘Register’.
  4. Click on ‘Login’ and enter your email ID and password.
  5. Select your ‘admission scheme’, fill all the details and click on ‘Save & Next’.
  6. Fill all the required education details on the next page and click on ‘Save & Next’.
  7. Upload your image and signature in the required size.
  8. On the payment details page, pay the application fee of INR 1000 (INR 500 for SC/ST/PC/CWSF category) through NEFT.
  9. Click on ‘Save & Next’ and preview your application.
  10. After previewing, click on ‘Final Submit’ and then on ‘OK’.
  11. Take a print out of the form and send it along with self-attested documents before April 23, 2018 to:

Candidates must submit self-attested copies of the following documents:

  • Class 10th Mark sheet as a proof of Date of Birth.
  • Master's Degree Certificate along with the Mark sheets.
  • Category certificate, if applicable.
  • Certificate for those students who are appearing in their Master's Degree final year examination
  • Copy of Bank counterfoil with details of NEFT transfer fee: Name & Branch of Bank; Transaction ID; Date of Payment

Note: Candidates who already hold a Ph.D. degree from IARI or any other university will not be allowed to appear for the entrance examination.


Selection Procedure:

M.Phil/Ph.D in Agriculture

Students are selected on the basis of their performance in the Entrance Examination conducted by ICAR, the Interview, and past academic records. Following is the marks distribution for the same.

  • Entrance Examination - 80%.
  • Academic Records - 10%.
  • Interview - 10%.

The entrance test will comprise of three papers. Paper I will cater to questions from General Agriculture, while Paper II & III will have subject-specific questions. Students need at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ ST/ PC students) in order to qualify the Entrance Examination. The ones who qualify the Entrance Examination are called for an Interview.

The merit list of selected students is published on the official website of IARI as well as PG. School of IARI. The selected students can then download their Selection letter from the website. Selected students will be allowed to join only after they are declared medically fit and submit the required documents as well as fees.
