Program Description

  • The Bachelor of Data Science at Western Sydney University is a 3-year program.
  • Western’s new Bachelor of Data Science is one of a kind. It’s unique because it can only be studied in conjunction with another degree – giving you an added advantage in a competitive environment.
  • This program is for the students who want to know how to decipher large volumes of data, uncover trends, analyze the findings, and gain a deeper insight into their true meaning.
  • The student can blend Data Science with courses like Marketing, Engineering, Information and Communications Technology, Science, or Psychology to graduate with a combined degree.
  • As the Bachelor of Data Science is designed to be undertaken in combination with any Western Sydney bachelor degree, the standard study duration for both degrees are:
    • Four years for students completing a three-year Western Sydney Bachelor degree and the Bachelor of Data Science.
    • Five years for students completing a four-year Western Sydney Bachelor degree and the Bachelor of Data Science.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

International Students Eligibility:

  • Successful completion of the Global Assessment Certificate with a GPA of 2.3. or
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum score of 24.

Indian Student Eligibility:

  • State Boards  Successful completion of Higher Secondary Certificate with a pass of 70% in the best 4 core subjects.
  • CBSE – Successful completion of AISCE (CBSE) with an overall GPA of 60% in the best 4 core subjects.
  • ISC – Successful completion of ISCE with an overall GPA of 60% in the best 4 core subjects.

Language Requirments:

  • The students whose official language is not English are required to submit the TOEFL or IELTS exam scores.
  • The English language proficiency test must be no more than two years old at the time of your commencement at Western Sydney University.

Language Requirement Exemption:

  • If the student’s first language is English or if the student can provide satisfactory evidence that English was the medium of instruction in their secondary or tertiary studies they may be considered as meeting the requirement of proficiency in English and they are exempted from submitting the scores.

VISA & Work Study

VISA

  • Before the student comes to study in Australia, the student must obtain a student visa from the Department of Home Affairs (DOHA).
  • Student visas can only be granted for courses that are registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions for Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).
  • The student may not require a student visa to study in Australia if the student holds another visa (other temporary visas) that allows the student to enter and stay in Australia with no restrictions on the study.
  • The student must be 6 years or older.
  • The student can stay for the duration of the course.
  • The student must be enrolled in a full-time course at a recognized educational institution.
  • If the student needs to provide evidence of their English language skill, they must provide evidence that they:

    • Have obtained a certain test score in an English language test that the Department has approved.or
    • Showing the proof that the student is from a country where English is an official language.
  • The student must be of good character to visit or live in Australia. This means the student must pass the character test, and remain of good character.
  • If the student is applying for a student visa and is under 18 years of age, then the student must have adequate welfare arrangements in place while the student is in Australia.
  • The student might have to have health examinations to prove you meet the health requirement.
  • The results of your examinations will be assessed by a Medical Officer of the Commonwealth (MOC).

Work Study

  • The student can only work up to 40 hours a fortnight. A fortnight means a period of 14 days starting on a Monday.
  • If the student is a member of the family unit of a primary student visa holder, the student must not work in Australia until they have started their course.
  • If the student holds a subclass 500 visa or subclass 574 (Postgraduate Research) visa then the student can work unrestricted hours if:
    • The student is studying masters by research or a doctorate degree and has started the course, or
    • the work is a registered part of the course.
