  • Certificate in Athletic Therapy at York University is offered as a 3-year professional degree program.
  • It is an on-campus program offered on a full-time basis only.
  • This certificate is a 3-year program and can be earned in conjunction with the Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) options in Kinesiology and Health Science.
  • Athletic Therapy specializes in the prevention, evaluation, and management of neuromusculoskeletal injuries (muscles, bones, and joints, etc.) and medical conditions as they relate to athletics and physical activity to help athletes return to their sport or patients to return to an active lifestyle.  
  • The Athletic Therapy Certificate Program is accredited by the Canadian Athletic Therapists' Association.
  • It prepares students to achieve the professional designation of a Certified Athletic Therapist in Canada, enabling students to work with professional athletes as well as the active population.
  • This certificate includes practical or hands-on experiential education courses encompassing prevention, assessment, and management of athletic injuries both on the field and in the clinic.
  • Students will have the opportunity to work directly with both varsity level and professional level athletes.  
  • The previous students have had the opportunity to work with professional teams such as the Toronto Argonauts, Hamilton Tigercats, National Ballet of Canada, Canada Basketball, Wheelchair Rugby Canada, and the Toronto FC Academy soccer club. 
  • Students who are admitted to the Athletic Therapy Certificate program can only take part in one certificate at a time.
  • This certificate is open to current York students in the Kinesiology and Health Science degree program (BA or BSc) who meet the Athletic Therapy Certificate Program admission criteria. 
  • The school of kinesiology and Health Science is known for Innovative research, inspiring students through excellence in teaching, and leadership on the health implications of physical activity and inactivity.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students must complete a bachelor's degree from a recognized university.
  • Students must be currently registered in the BA or BSc Kinesiology and Health Science Honours degree program at York University and have completed a minimum of 24 credits to get eligible for this program.

Indian Student Eligibility

Indian students are eligible to apply if they have any one of the following certificates:

  • All-India Senior School Certificate (AISSCE)
  • Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC)
  • Indian School Certificate (ISC)
  • Intermediate Examination Certificate
  • Pre-University Examination Certificate

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.

    VISA & Work Study

    VISA

    • Student VISA authorizes students to study in Canada legally.
    • International students will receive their Study Permits in the form of a paper document which will usually be attached to the passport at the Canadian port of entry.

    Work Study

    Eligibility:

    • The student must have a valid study permit for the period of employment.
    • He/She should meet the specific skills and experience requirements set by the sponsoring department.

    Restrictions:

    • All students are permitted to accept one Work-Study position only per program period.
    • Non-degree students (i.e. visiting students, students on a LOP) are not eligible for Work-Study.
    • Students are not eligible to hold a work-study position in the same term in which they are holding an NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award (or equivalent).

    Salary Rate:

    • Hourly rates vary with the nature of the job, the scope of responsibilities and work experience.
    • The salary range will be indicated on the job posting and/or students will be advised by the employer during the interview.
    • Work/study students are paid by their hiring department through York's payroll system.
    • Student Financial Services does not pay students and cannot make adjustments to pay.
