Program Description

  • Certificate in Health Informatics at York University is offered as a 1-year cross-disciplinary degree program.
  • It is an on-campus program offered on both a full-time and part-time basis.
  • The Health Informatics Certificate is a one-of-a-kind educational experience offered by the School of Health Policy and management.
  • Students will become fully engaged in the concepts and strategies of health information management.
  • This certificate will enable students to develop and manage information systems in order to enhance the quality of client care.
  • From the development of educational Web sites to designing and developing database applications, student's experiences will immerse them in the real-life of health-care data management and patient wellness.
  • Students have to successfully complete the 30 credits for this course.
  • This certificate builds on York's existing nursing and health studies programs and may be completed at the same time as health-related degree studies.
  • This certificate is open to the following applicants:
    • current York students in a health-related discipline, or
    • new applicants to York who already hold a university degree or college diploma in a health-related discipline.
  • This Certificate may be pursued independently (if students already possess a community college diploma or university undergraduate degree in a health-related field) or concurrently with any York health-related undergraduate program.
  • This professional Certificate will provide students with specific knowledge and insight into the growing field of health informatics.
  • Through seminars, laboratory simulations, and self-directed research, students will broaden their knowledge and expertise in the expanding area of health care.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students must have to complete a university degree or college diploma in a health-related discipline.
  • Students have six 4U/M courses including ENG4U.

Indian Student Eligibility

Indian students are eligible to apply if they have any one of the following certificates:

  • Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC)

    VISA & Work Study

    VISA

    • Student VISA authorizes students to study in Canada legally.
    • International students will receive their Study Permits in the form of a paper document which will usually be attached to the passport at the Canadian port of entry.
    • Temporary Resident Visas (TRVs), commonly called Entry Visas, are to be obtained by foreign nationals who require visas to enter Canada, while Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) allows foreign nationals from visa-exempted countries to enter Canada without a visa.

    Work Study

    Eligibility:

    • The student must have a valid study permit for the period of employment.
    • He/She should meet the specific skills and experience requirements set by the sponsoring department.

    Restrictions:

    • All students are permitted to accept one Work-Study position only per program period.
    • Non-degree students (i.e. visiting students, students on a LOP) are not eligible for Work-Study.
    • Students are not eligible to hold a work-study position in the same term in which they are holding an NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award (or equivalent).

    Salary Rate:

    • Hourly rates vary with the nature of the job, the scope of responsibilities and work experience.
    • The salary range will be indicated on the job posting and/or students will be advised by the employer during the interview.
    • Work/study students are paid by their hiring department through York's payroll system.
    • Student Financial Services does not pay students and cannot make adjustments to pay.
