Program Description

  • Bachelor of Arts in English at the University of Waterloo is offered as a 4-years program.
  • It is an honours, on-campus program offered on a full-time basis.
  • At the end of the 1st year, students can choose one of three majors within the English program.
    • Literature
    • Literature and Rhetoric
    • Rhetoric, Media, and Professional Communication
  • At Waterloo, students will learn from the Department of English various features of internationally recognized by scholars.
  • The class consists of 40 students, creating an environment where they can connect with their classmates and professors.
  • In their classes, students will develop all-important skills in communication, critical thinking, analysis, and persuasion.
  • The English program is available as a both co-op and a regular program.
  • After completion of the 1st Year, 40% of the students will take English courses and remaining students can choose electives from many of the 100 subject areas at Waterloo and even spend a semester abroad earning credits toward their degree.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

    Academic Eligibility:

    • Students need to submit the marks to take admission in the bachelor’s degree:
      • Standard 12th English with a grade of 70%.
    • Ontario students: six Grade 12 U(University) or M(University/College) courses including:
      • any Grade 12 U English (minimum final grade of at least 70% is required).
    • The students must hold the 80s (co-op and regular) to get admission in this program.

    Indian Students Eligibility:

    • Students will be evaluated for admission based on 10th board examination results, final 11th school grades, and predicted Grade 12 board results from their school.
    • Students have all India Senior School Certificate awarded by CBSE.
    • Students have Indian School Certificate awarded by CISCE.
    • Students have other pre-university certificate awarded after 12 years of academic studies.

    Followings are the required documents:

    • Official Transcripts: Students need to submit their copy of their original transcripts. Official transcripts are printed on security paper with the University of Waterloo seal and signature of the Registrar.
    • Statement of Interest: Statement of interest is one of the few ways to describe that faculty have to understand the student's motivation, the seriousness of purpose, and their level of commitment to the discipline.
    • Reference Letter:  Students will choose letter writers that will be able to comment on their academic record as well as other experiences or relevant skill sets. 
    • CV/Resume:  Students should probably provide a resume, a copy of their transcripts, as well as a copy of their statement of interest, and other relevant application material.
