Program Description

  • St. Lawrence College offers a Certificate in Accounting for a duration of 1-year.
  • It is an online program offered on a part-time basis.
  • The Accounting Certificate Program is designed for individuals who wish to acquire a thorough accounting education.
  • In order to earn the Certificate in Accounting, you must successfully complete a total of ten (10) courses, six (6) compulsory and four (4) electives.
  • For student's convenience, some courses are offered both in-class and online. Some online courses can be started at different times throughout the semester, just choose the course date that fits their schedule.
  • Textbooks and additional materials may be required for these courses. Students are responsible for purchasing their textbooks and additional materials for all courses. 
  • Textbooks are also available at the Campus Bookstores for in-class courses.
  • Online courses are easily identified by CS at the beginning of the course code (i.e. CSSE 65 Accounting Basics 1).
  • Part-time students have a maximum of five years to complete the program.
  • Graduates from the program may find employment as accounting/payroll clerks, bookkeepers, salary administrators, or in the areas of accounts receivable/payable, wholesale, etc.
  • The average salary of the program goes up to 36,000 USD.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students that have successfully complete the program must hold an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (O.S.S.D.) or equivalent from a recognized college or university.
  • Students must qualify for mature student status (19 years of age or older).

Indian Student Eligibility:

  • The students must have completed 10th and intermediate i.e 12th grade which has the minimum with 60% marks.
  • The minimum qualification required to attend this program is a higher secondary school certificate.
  • Copies of original documents should be attested by the educational institution.
  • School Record of Diploma/Degree certificate Mark sheets for each year of study is required.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.

VISA & Work Study

VISA

  • A Student VISA authorizes students to study in Canada legally.
  • International students will receive their Study Permits in the form of a paper document which will usually be attached to the passport at the Canadian port of entry.
  • Temporary Resident Visas (TRVs), commonly called Entry Visas, are to be obtained by foreign nationals who require visas to enter Canada, while Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) allows foreign nationals from visa-exempted countries to enter Canada without a visa.
  • At the time of VISA application, students need to provide various documents:

    • Biometrics (fingerprints and photographs)

Work Study

The Work-Study Program allows students to take part in research-based projects. Students may work on-campus and off-campus. Students can only start working in Canada when they start their study program. There are no restrictions on the number of hours students can work on campus in addition to working off-campus.

  • During regular school semesters, students can work up to 20 hours.
  • During scheduled breaks in their school year, like during winter and summer holidays, they can work full-time.
  • Students can’t work during a break that comes before the student start their very first school semester.
  • If their program doesn’t have scheduled academic breaks, students can’t work more than 20 hours per week.
