Program Description

  • St. Lawrence College offers a Diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion for a duration of 2 years.
  • It is an on-campus program offered on a full-time basis.
  • This two-year curriculum includes courses in exercise science, fitness, health promotion, business management, and human relations as well as personal and professional development.
  • Several of the courses will be delivered in the Student Health and Athletic Centre on the Kingston Campus, which provides a state-of-the-art training facility.
  • Students in the program can expect approximately 20-25 hours of class per week. Classes are typically scheduled between the hours of 8:30-5:30.
  • Students will have the opportunity to obtain four additional certifications including the nationally recognized Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) certification from the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology.
  • Graduates will offer prospective employ­ers 400 hours of practical experience in the workforce gained from two 5-week work placements.
  • Students get numerous weekend workshop opportunities in the courses that are offered in the area of fitness and health.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students have to complete Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)with the majority of Grade 11 and 12 courses at the C, U, or M level including the following prerequisites:
    • Grade 12 English at the C or U level
    • Grade 11 Math at the C, U, or M level
    • Grade 11 or 12 Biology at the C or U level, or PSK4U.
  •  Students must have a background in any grade 11 or 12 Health and Physical Education courses.
  • Students should have basic computer skills which include the ability to use Internet Explorer, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Indian Student Eligibility:

  • The students must have completed 10th and intermediate i.e 12th grade which has the minimum with 60% marks.
  • The minimum qualification required to attend this program is a higher secondary school certificate.
  • Copies of original documents should be attested by the educational institution.
  • School Record of Diploma/Degree certificate Mark sheets for each year of study is required.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.

VISA & Work Study

VISA

  • A Student VISA authorizes students to study in Canada legally.
  • International students will receive their Study Permits in the form of a paper document which will usually be attached to the passport at the Canadian port of entry.
  • Temporary Resident Visas (TRVs), commonly called Entry Visas, are to be obtained by foreign nationals who require visas to enter Canada, while Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) allows foreign nationals from visa-exempted countries to enter Canada without a visa.
  • At the time of VISA application, students need to provide various documents:

Work Study

The Work-Study Program allows students to take part in research-based projects. Students may work on-campus and off-campus. Students can only start working in Canada when they start their study program. There are no restrictions on the number of hours students can work on campus in addition to working off-campus.

  • During regular school semesters, students can work up to 20 hours.
  • During scheduled breaks in their school year, like during winter and summer holidays, they can work full-time.
  • Students can’t work during a break that comes before the student start their very first school semester.
  • If their program doesn’t have scheduled academic breaks, students can’t work more than 20 hours per week.
