Aurora College is located in the Northwest Territories of Canada focusing on student success. It was established in the year 1995. It commits to develop the Northern Society. The College is a modern and comprehensive post-secondary institution connected through transfer agreements and partnerships to a wide network of technical schools, colleges, and universities in Canada and the circumpolar world.

It excels in education, training, and research. All these are work upon as culturally sensitive. It has 6 types of programs, namely Academic upgrading and Access program, Certificate Programs, Diploma programs, Degree programs, Trades, Apprenticeship & Industrial Training Programs, and Other Programs.

In addition to a broad range of trades and apprenticeship training and certificate, diploma, and degree programs, the College offers adult literacy and basic education as well as a variety of continuing education courses. Building on over 40 years of experience, Aurora College is well-positioned to work with Northerners to prepare them to build a strong and vibrant society in the NWT.

On average, 499 students are enrolled as full – time, 2591 students as part-time, 71 students as an apprentice, and 1843 students as indigenous.

  • Due to COVID - 19, the Fall Semester is supposed to be in distance learning, except some specific programs which will be conducted by both, distance and face to face. Student residences will open in time for the start of the fall semester.
  • There is a provision for a refund of tuition fees for students who are dissatisfied with a distance learning experience. The application forms are still received by contact one of the campus and also being accepted online.
  • First-time students, students that do not have reliable access to the internet or students requiring assistance in completing their applications, can request a call back from an SFA staff member. By choosing this option, you can request and receive a call back from an SFA staff member who will assist you in completing your application and answer any questions or concerns you may have about the SFA program.

Aurora College International Admissions

Taking admission requires some extra documentation from international students. The documents required are given below.

Academic Requirements:

  • International students have to submit an English Language Proficiency Test results.
  • Transcripts are to be submitted in one of Canada’s official languages which are in English or French language.

Note: The international students should not send their application before July for the semester that begins in September. It will hamper the receiving of student visas.

The international students will not be admitted if they fail to attend class on the first day itself.

English Language Proficiency Test Scores 

International students from non-English speaking countries are required to submit the English language proficiency test scores. The minimum scores are given below.

Student Visa For International Students

Student Visa is required to stay and study in Canada. If a student wants to work along with a study, he/she has to apply for that separately. The following documents are required for student permit:

  • Acceptance letter from a designated learning institution.
  • Valid passport or travel document.
  • Proof that he/ she can support himself/ herself and any family members who come with him/her while he/ she is in Canada.
  • After applying for a student visa, he/ she has to provide biometrics.

Admission requirements:

  • Letter of interest: This letter should contain the reason for which the student is interested to join the particular program. It need not be too long, a brief description is required.
  • Transcripts: The high school credits and/or secondary education are to be sent to the campus to which the student is applying. Applicants whose high school is located in North-Western Territories can order a transcript by contacting the Education, Culture and Employment Student Records Office.
  • Work experience: It is not compulsory. However, it is advisable to submit a detailed portfolio of work experience. It shows whether the applicant meets all the requirements of admission in the chosen program. Prior learning or work experience can add up to enhancing academic credit. Detailed written statements about the work experience are to be mentioned in the portfolio.
  • Proof of sponsorship: It is required because the students are responsible for arranging their own financial assistance.

Supporting Documents: Some programs like Camp Cook and Bachelors of Education require additional information like the Mantoux test, Criminal record, Reference letter(s), etc. It is advisable to go through the course in details from the official website.

The Aurora College of Canada offers a varieties of courses which includes Degree course, diploma course, etc. The application form is available on the online portal on the official website. It open for fall sessions even after the COVID-19 pandemic. The application form can be downloaded and submitted offline as well. It is a semester-based with fall, winter, and spring sessions. Financial aid is available in the form of Scholarship, Bursaries and awards & GNWT student financial assistance. Ques. How to send for financial assistance?

Ans. The students applying for financial assistance should send their application until July 15, 2020. They have to contact the agency to which they are applying for specific information. Acceptance letter from college is not necessary while applying for financial aid.

Ques. Should I send my application fee with the form?

Ans. An application fee of $40 ($200 in case of international students) is to be submitted along with the form. The mode of payment is Cheque/Money Order/Credit Card/Cash in person.

Ques. Is my account (if any) with Aurora College in good standing?

Ans. If a student already has an account with Aurora College, it must be settled before the application will be processed for acceptance.
