Program Description

  • Certificate in Chemistry at Douglas College is offered as 6 months teaching program.
  • It is an online program offered on a full-time basis.
  • Students have to successfully complete 15 credits.
  • In this program, the course will be presented using lectures, problem sessions, and class discussions. 
  • In-class demonstrations of computer-based educational materials and videos will be used.
  • The laboratory consists of experiments performed by students, either individually or in pairs, which illustrate the lecture material or encourage good experimental technique. 
  • Alternately, the course may be offered in a hybrid format in which some of the lecture material is replaced with online activities.
  • This certificate program is offered by the university in fall, winter, and summer.
  • Students have to give their practical laboratory exams in the last lab period of the semester.
  • A student who achieves less than 50% in either the lecture or laboratory portion of the course will earn a maximum P grade.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students have to complete High school graduation or a minimum of 17 years of age by the end of the first month of studies in the semester of entry to Douglas College.
  • Students hold a minimum overall grade average of 60% (or equivalent) in the final year of high school.
  • Students acquire a minimum final grade of “C” or 60% (or equivalent) in Grade 11 Mathematics or equivalent for most programs.

Language Requirements:

  • The students must be able to understand and fluently speak the language of instruction (English) in the program. Proof of linguistic proficiency may be required.
  • The students whose official language is not English must submit the English Language Proficiency scores like IELTS or TOEFL.
  • If the student does not meet the language requirements they can take English Language Learning and Acquisition (ELLA) program and complete it and pursue this program.

  • Student visa and Visitor Visa (Optional) is required to study in Canada. 
  • The Student visa is a document that the Canadian government issues that allow foreign nationals to study at institutions in Canada.
  • A Student visa is usually valid for the length of the student’s study program, plus an extra 90 days. The 90 days lets the student prepare to leave Canada or apply to extend their stay.
  • The cost of the Student visa is 112 USD.
  • The students need these documents to apply for a student visa:
    • Proof of acceptance i.e The offer letter that the student received from the university.
    • Proof of identity 
    • Proof of financial support i.e Documents showing the financial status.

Work Study

  • "On-campus" is defined as employment facilities within the boundaries of the campus. Students are only allowed to work on the campus at which they are registered as a Full-Time student.
  • The student may work on-campus without a work permit if:
    • Is a full-time student enrolled at Douglas College
    • Have a valid study permit
    • Have a valid SIN 
  • International students can work off-campus if the student is:
    • full-time student enrolled at Douglas College
    • In an academic program that is at least 6 months in duration and that leads to a degree, diploma, or certificate
    • Have a valid study permit, valid SIN
  • To maintain working eligibility off-campus, most students must be enrolled full-time (9 credits minimum).
  • Eligible students can work up to 20 hours per week during academic sessions.
