Program Description

  • Certificate degree in Blockchain Development at George Brown College is offered as a 1 years (3 semesters) program.
  • It is an online program offered on a full-time basis.
  • George Brown College's School of Computer Technology is the first Canadian college to offer a certificate in Blockchain Development.
  • This program focuses on designing and implementing decentralized applications by leveraging blockchain technology.
  • The 3-semester program is designed to thoroughly cover full stack development to give students all the tools they need to succeed in this emerging and exciting field.
  • The program has been developed with the support of blockchain industry professionals and is taught in a full-time executive format of approximately 20 hours per week of study over a 26-week time period.
  • Co-op and work integrated learning opportunities are available during the third semester of the program.
  • It is the first certificate in blockchain offered by a Canadian college.
  • The skills students will learn include:
    • Smart contracts
    • Design patterns for blockchain
    • Distributed applications (dApps)
    • Full stack development
    • Blockchain architecture, security practices, laws and regulations, and more.
  • During the third semester of the program, students may choose whether to apply for a Co-op position or take a Work Integrated Learning course which includes an industry-sponsored project.
  • To support Toronto as a leading blockchain hub, George Brown College has partnered with ConsenSys, ChainSafe Systems and other leaders in the industry to develop this program.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students must complete a 2-3 years diploma or bachelor's degree in computer science or related field from a recognized university.
  • The related fields include a UG degree in computer engineering, engineering science, Information Technology, Computer Science.
  • Students have to submit English proficiency test results.
  • Students with international transcripts who do not provide English proficiency test results must test at the College level in the George Brown College English assessment to be considered for admission.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria

  • Students must be graduated from senior secondary school.
  • Students have a minimum overall of 60% in 10th and 12th Grade for all streams.
  • Students also have a minimum overall of 50% in English in 10th and 12th Grade.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/PTE/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.

  • Online application form: Students have to submit an online application form at the official website.
  • CV/Resume: Outline of academic achievements and/or awards, publications, relevant work, and/or volunteer experience.
  • Academic Documents: Students have to submit marks sheets and certificates of secondary (10) and senior secondary school (+2).
  • Students who have only completed year 10: Students have to submit marks sheet and certificate of secondary (10) plus mark sheets and a diploma from vocational training may qualify students for admission to UG programs.
  • Transcript: Students must submit the official marks statements or transcripts that are provided by the college.
  • Certificates: Certificates like High School or University/College Certificates are to be submitted of education qualification.
  • ELP Scores: Students have to submit their English language proficiency scores like IELTS, TOEFL, or other test scores.
  • Students who are under 18 must also submit custodianship documents.
  • NOTE: University does not accept study gaps of more than 5 years.

VISA & Work Study

VISA

  • International Students will need to apply for a valid Student VISA before entering Canada.
  • A student visa is an immigration document that allows students to live and study in Canada.
  • The student must have a student visa to enroll in any degree, program, or course that takes more than 6 months to complete.
  • Whether students also need an Entry Visa depends on their country of citizenship.
  • The Temporary Resident Visa (Entry Visa) is a stamp placed on their passport that allows them to enter Canada.
  • In most cases, students Entry Visa will have the same expiry date as their Student VISA.
  • A student VISA is usually valid for the length of the student’s study program, plus an extra 90 days. 
  • The students need these documents to apply for a study permit:
    • Proof of acceptance i.e The offer letter that the student received from the university.
    • Proof of identity

Work Study

  • The George Brown College Work-Study Program provides students with part-time employment opportunities throughout the college.
