Program Description

  • Certificate degree in Dental Assisting (Levels I and II) at George Brown College is offered as a 1 years (2 semesters) program.
  • Dental Assisting is a full-time program. Classes may be scheduled from 7:30 a.m to 7:30 p.m Monday to Friday.
  • This program will prepare students to become valued collaborative members of the oral health care team.
  • Learning process of students can takes place from the following programs:
    • Restorative Dental Hygiene
    • Dental Hygiene
    • Denturism
    • Dental Technology
    • Dental Office Administration
    • University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry
  • Students develop the skills, technical knowledge and clinical experience necessary to work in a professional, ethical and collaborative manner in a variety of settings.
  • Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to apply to write the National Dental Assisting Examining Board (NDAEB) examination.
  • This program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada.
  • Upon successful completion of the examination, candidates are eligible to apply for certification with the Ontario Dental Assistants Association to work as a Level II Dental Assistant in the province of Ontario.
  • This program offers both onsite and offsite field education opportunities.
  • In Semester 1, the curriculum is focused on building the core skills of a dental assistant while working with mannequins in our onsite state-of-the-art WAVE Dental Clinic and dental laboratories.
  • In Semester 2, students will build on this foundation by practicing on each other and alongside students from the Restorative Dental Hygiene program and the University of Toronto Dentistry program.
  • Students in the program receive experience in:
    • intra-oral skills
    • digital intra-oral imaging
    • laboratory procedures
    • infection prevention and control protocols
    • safety protocols
    • business skills
  • The average salary of the program goes up to 37,000 USD.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students have completed an Ontario Secondary School diploma or equivalent degree.
  • Students must complete Grade 12 English (C or U) with 60% or higher.
  • Students have to complete a Grade 11 Math (M or U) or Grade 12 (C or U) with 60% or higher.
  • Students also complete Grade 11 Biology (C or U) or Grade 12 (U) with 60% or higher.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria

  • Students must be graduated from senior secondary school.
  • Students have a minimum overall of 60% in 10th and 12th Grade for all streams.
  • Students also have a minimum overall of 50% in English in 10th and 12th Grade.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/PTE/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.

  • CV/Resume: Outline of academic achievements and/or awards, publications, relevant work, and/or volunteer experience.
  • Academic Documents: Students have to submit marks sheets and certificates of secondary (10) and senior secondary school (+2).
  • Students who have only completed year 10: Students have to submit marks sheet and certificate of secondary (10) plus mark sheets and a diploma from vocational training may qualify students for admission to UG programs.
  • Transcript: Students must submit the official marks statements or transcripts that are provided by the college.
  • Certificates: Certificates like High School or University/College Certificates are to be submitted of education qualification.
  • ELP Scores: Students have to submit their English language proficiency scores like IELTS, TOEFL, or other test scores.
  • Students who are under 18 must also submit custodianship documents.
  • NOTE: University does not accept study gaps of more than 5 years.

VISA

  • International Students will need to apply for a valid Student VISA before entering Canada.
  • A student visa is an immigration document that allows students to live and study in Canada.
  • The student must have a student visa to enroll in any degree, program, or course that takes more than 6 months to complete.
  • Whether students also need an Entry Visa depends on their country of citizenship.
  • The Temporary Resident Visa (Entry Visa) is a stamp placed on their passport that allows them to enter Canada.
  • In most cases, students Entry Visa will have the same expiry date as their Student VISA.
  • A student VISA is usually valid for the length of the student’s study program, plus an extra 90 days. 
  • The students need these documents to apply for a study permit:

  • The George Brown College Work-Study Program provides students with part-time employment opportunities throughout the college.
  • Students can gain valuable experience working up to 15 hours a week at minimum wage.
