Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland: Rankings, Courses, Admissions, Tuition Fee, Cost of Attendance & Scholarships

Vaishnavi Agrawal Vaishnavi Agrawal
Study Abroad Expert

Being a part of the Memorial University of Newfoundland, the Fisheries and Marine Institute is Canada’s most renowned center for education, training, industrial support, and applied research for the ocean industries. It’s a home of the world’s only co-operative education program in the ocean and naval architectural engineering. It was established in 1964 as the College of Fisheries, Navigation, Marine Engineering, and Electronics. The institute is now officially known as the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland since its affiliation with Memorial University in 1992. The affiliation with Memorial University uplifted the standard of the institute, ultimately resulting in a world-class center of marine technology and education. It’s an interesting fact that beyond 40 percent of Memorial University’s research which is ocean-related alone contributes to 68 percent in the Faculty of Science. However, if there’s ocean research happening in the North Atlantic, the Marine Institute of Memorial is likely involved.

Rankings

Marine Institute is ranked:

  • 657th by U.S. News and World Report in 2020 list of Best National Universities
  • Only Canadian university to make the list of the world's top post-secondary institutions for the study of marine/ocean engineering, by Shanghai ranking.
  • 45 in Marine and Ocean Engineering by Shanghai ranking.
  • Top 200 in Oceanography and Political Science.

    THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY

I got to know about this college from the internet. I had applied to 6 other colleges but this one was my top priority looking at its reputation and brand name. I paid around $120 for the online application along with sending the official transcripts, and a medical certificate as proof of physical fitness.

MY EXPERIENCES AT THE MARINE INSTITUTE OF MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OF NEWFOUNDLAND

I have always wanted to pursue my bachelor's in Canada. I did a lot of research before getting into this college. I had applied to the college through an online application portal. An application fee of $120 was also paid by me.

    Course Curriculum -

The course curriculum is designed to make us field ready and to acquire some proper managerial skills. Our curriculum gives us information about human resources, economics, marketing, and quality management in today's maritime industry. It is a unique professional degree that provides us with an in-depth understanding of the business as well as the Maine and technology management concepts. It helped me to endure success in the field by molding me into a knowledgeable professional.
