Sobey School of Business is the business school of St Mary’s University (SMU). It offers undergraduate, graduate and professional development courses. The MBA degree offered by Sobey has been ranked as one of the top 10 in Canada by the QS World Rankings.

The School has an enrolment of over 3200 students, 50% of whom are international students. The college offers a range of specialities including a B.Comm degree with 10 different majors to choose from, a highly ranked MBA program and masters programs in applied economics/ finance/ accounting etc.

  • The semesters here start in January, May, July and September.
  • International applicants are advised to complete all admission procedures at least 8 weeks prior to the start date of their program.

Sobey School of Business Admissions Deadline

The full-time academic sessions at Sobey School of Business begins in January, May, June and September. Although there are no set admission deadlines, applicants are advised to submit all documents in a timely way, for processing before the course registrations start.

International students are advised to apply well in advance because documents can take up to and over 5 weeks to be processed.

Admission requirements -

  • Indian nationals applying to Sobey are required to submit their Higher Secondary School Certificates with minimum grades of A, B or C.
  • Official transcripts
  • International applicants have to obtain a study permit from the IRCC.

    • English Proficiency Test score to be sent directly from the testing agency to Sobey School of Business.

  • Undergraduate applicants can also demonstrate proficiency in the English Language by completing EAP(English for Academic Purpose) Level 6, at the Language Centre of SMU.
  • Applicants who can provide academic transcripts proving proficiency in English may also be exempted from the test.

Visa Requirements for International Students -

After the student is selected for admission, the student has to apply for and receive a study permit from the IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) and also obtain a work permit if his/her selected program specifies so.

  • Students are advised to apply for their study permit at least 8 weeks prior to the start date of their program.
  • Students are advised by the institute to contact a VAC (Visa Application Centre) of their choice to assist in the process of visa application.
  • VACs charge a fee for the processing of documents and take responsibility for safe delivery an applicant’s passport, application and biometric information to the Government of Canada.
  • Additional documents: Transcript(s), scores of any standardized tests taken, financial evidence showing sufficient funds.

Sobey School of Business Undergraduate Admissions

Sobey offers a four year, Bachelor of Commerce degree at the undergraduate level, with 10 different majors and the option to add a certificate program.

The majors offered include Accounting, Finance, Marketing etc. Students can opt for a Financial Instrument Analysis Certificate or an HR Management Certificate while pursuing a B.Comm degree. The general undergraduate admission process is given below.

Sobey School of Business Graduate Certification and Degree Admissions

Sobey offers graduate courses such as MBA, Masters and PhD degrees as well as stand-alone professional certifications for applicants with previous education and work experience. The certificate courses are offered both online and offline and the duration of each course varies. The certificate programs can be pursued while studying in other full-time courses at the institute.
