Program Description

  • Diploma in Practical Nursing degree at the Sault College is offered a 2-year (4 semesters) program.
  • This program will be delivered through traditional classrooms on campus.
  • The program offered on a full-time basis.
  • Through this program, students with practical learning needs will have the opportunity to access the College campus for that learning.
  • This program is currently Approved (Category 1) by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Current graduates from this program are eligible to apply for registration as a Registered Practical Nurse in Ontario.
  • The program will provide graduates with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to demonstrate safe, competent nursing at entry-to-practice.
  • The successful completion of this national examination entitles the candidate to apply to the College of Nurses of Ontario for registration as a practical nurse.
  • If students are Canadian citizens or permanent residents and currently unemployed, students may qualify for second career funding for this program.
  • A graduate of the Practical Nursing Program at Sault College will reliably demonstrate the ability to:
    • communicate therapeutically with clients and members of the health care team
    • assess clients across the life span, in a systematic and holistic manner
    • contribute to creating a healthy and safe work environment in a variety of health care settings, and etc

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD):
    • Grade 12 ENG4C
    • Grade 11 Foundations for College Math (C) MBF3C
    • Grade 11 Biology (C) SBI3C
    • Grade 12 Chemistry (C) SCH4C or Grade 11 Chemistry (U) SCH3U
  • Personal Support Worker is no longer a direct entry into the Practical Nursing Program.
  • Personal Support Worker graduates would still require:
    • Grade 12 Chemistry (C) SCH4C or Grade 11 Chemistry (U) SCH3U, and
    • Grade 11 Foundations for College Math (C) MBF3C

Others:

  • Students must be 19 years or older before the beginning of classes.
  • Students who are graduated from Ontario Secondary Schools and who have obtained their diploma (OSSD) or certificate (OSSC) may be considered for admission on an individual basis for some programs delivered at the College.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.

Indian Student Eligibility:

  • The students must have completed 10th and intermediate i.e 12th grade which has the minimum with 60% marks.
  • The minimum qualification required to attend this program is a higher secondary school certificate.
  • Copies of original documents should be attested as true copies by the educational institution.
  • School Record Diploma/Degree certificate Mark sheets for each year of study.
  • College Record is not sufficient.

  • Two confidential letters of recommendation: Referees (Teachers, guidance counselors, or Professors) should comment on academics and that references should submit along with the application system.

VISA & Work Study

VISA

  • International Students will need to apply for a valid Student VISA before entering Canada.
  • A student visa is an immigration document that allows students to live and study in Canada.
  • The student must have a student visa to enroll in any degree, program, or course that takes more than 6 months to complete.
  • Whether students also need an Entry Visa depends on their country of citizenship.
  • The Temporary Resident Visa (Entry Visa) is a stamp placed on their passport that allows them to enter Canada.
  • In most cases, students Entry Visa will have the same expiry date as their Student VISA.
  • A student VISA is usually valid for the length of the student’s study program, plus an extra 90 days. 
  • The students need these documents to apply for a study permit:
    • Proof of acceptance i.e The offer letter that the student received from the university.
    • Proof of identity 
    • Proof of financial support i.e Documents showing the financial status.

Work Study

  • Sault College offers a work-study program for the students in need of financial help. The students can work on regular days and summers too.

Student Employment On-Campus during the Academic Year

  • The students who need financial help are offered this program. The students can work a maximum of 10 hours per week for 20 weeks or 200 hours. Jobs are posted as per the job updates.

Sault College Summer Work Program

  • The students who need financial help are offered this program during the summer period i.e. May to August. Jobs are posted, and the application is available at the student job center in the month of April.
