  • Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems - Applications Specialist degree at the Sault College is offered a 1-year (2 semesters) program.

  • Students will learn the fundamentals and theory of GIS with a focus on hands-on training, and students will also investigate the influence of natural phenomena in the interpretation of remotely sensed data.
  • As a student who is sponsored by an employer, students will have an opportunity to work on specific and real-world projects.
  • In this course, students will participate in a four-week field placement with a potential employer in a location and aspect of GIS that meets the employer`s needs.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Applicants have an Ontario College Advanced Diploma, University Degree or equivalent in the fields of geography, engineering, health sciences, natural resources, or computers.
  • Graduates with an Ontario College Diploma may be considered on an individual basis dependent on appropriate background and competencies in GIS and computers.


  • Students must be 19 years or older before the beginning of classes.
  • Students who are graduated from Ontario Secondary Schools and who have obtained their diploma (OSSD) or certificate (OSSC) may be considered for admission on an individual basis for some programs delivered at the College.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.

Indian Student Eligibility:

  • The students must have completed 10th and intermediate i.e 12th grade which has the minimum with 60% marks.
  • The minimum qualification required to attend this program is a higher secondary school certificate.
  • Copies of original documents should be attested as true copies by the educational institution.
  • School Record Diploma/Degree certificate Mark sheets for each year of study.
  • College Record is not sufficient.

VISA & Work Study


  • International Students will need to apply for a valid Student VISA before entering Canada.
  • A student visa is an immigration document that allows students to live and study in Canada.
  • The student must have a student visa to enroll in any degree, program, or course that takes more than 6 months to complete.
  • Whether students also need an Entry Visa depends on their country of citizenship.
  • The Temporary Resident Visa (Entry Visa) is a stamp placed on their passport that allows them to enter Canada.
  • In most cases, students Entry Visa will have the same expiry date as their Student VISA.
  • A student VISA is usually valid for the length of the student’s study program, plus an extra 90 days. 
  • The students need these documents to apply for a study permit:
    • Proof of acceptance i.e The offer letter that the student received from the university.
    • Proof of identity 
    • Proof of financial support i.e Documents showing the financial status.

Work Study

  • Sault College offers a work-study program for the students in need of financial help. The students can work on regular days and summers too.

Student Employment On-Campus during the Academic Year

  • The students who need financial help are offered this program. The students can work a maximum of 10 hours per week for 20 weeks or 200 hours. Jobs are posted as per the job updates.

Sault College Summer Work Program

  • The students who need financial help are offered this program during the summer period i.e. May to August. Jobs are posted, and the application is available at the student job center in the month of April.
