Program Description

  • The Master of Engineering is available for 3 streams namely:
    • Civil Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
  • The duration of the Program is also an option:
    • 12 Months – without Internship
    • 16-24 Months – with Internship.
  • The course-based MEng program is designed for engineering graduates who want to advance their careers with further education. 
  • Students take a variety of courses such as technical communications, ethics, and entrepreneurship.
  • Internships last between 4 and 12 months.  The length will depend on the student’s preference and availability of internships.
  • Students unable to secure an internship can participate in a research project with the School of Engineering.
  • The job roles to follow after graduation are:
    • Civil Engineer
    • Electrical Engineer
    • Mechanical Engineer.., etc.
  • The average salary of the graduate after getting placed is 95,000 USD.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students admitted to the MEng degree will normally possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related area with a minimum GPA of B+ (76–79%).

  • Official Transcripts: Students need to submit their copy of their original transcripts. Official transcripts are printed on security paper with the University of Waterloo seal and signature of the Registrar.
  • Statement of Interest: Statement of interest is one of the few ways to describe that faculty have to understand the student's motivation, the seriousness of purpose, and their level of commitment to the discipline.
  • Reference Letter:  Students will choose letter writers that will be able to comment on their academic record as well as other experiences or relevant skill sets. 
  • CV/Resume:  Students should probably provide a resume, a copy of their transcripts, as well as a copy of their statement of interest, and other relevant application material.
  • English Language Requirement Scores like TOEFLIELTS,..etc.

VISA & Work Study

VISA

  • The Student visa is a document that the Canadian government issues that allow foreign nationals to study at institutions in Canada.
  • A student visa is required to study in Canada. 
  • The cost of the Study Permit is 112 USD.
  • A Student visa is usually valid for the length of the student’s study program, plus an extra 90 days. The 90 days lets the student prepare to leave Canada or apply to extend their stay.
  • The students need these documents to apply for a study visa:
    • Proof of acceptance i.e The offer letter that the student received from the university.
    • Proof of identity 
    • Proof of financial support i.e Documents showing the financial status.

Work Study

  • In terms of Work-study, Students can work for 20 hours per week during the regular academic year and full-time during scheduled breaks.
  • If their program does not have scheduled breaks, the students will be limited to working 20 hours per week. 
  • An immigration officer may apply conditions on the type of work students may perform.
  • For example, they must pass an immigration medical examination before they begin work in health care, child care, or primary or secondary education.
