Laval University Undergraduate Admissions

Once an application is assessed, the applicant is informed of whether they are admitted to take a ‘qualifying course’, through which students acquire language or knowledge tools necessary to excel in the university.

Application Fee: 84 CAD

Admission Requirements: International applicants must provide the following documents at the time of admission:

  • Diploma attesting to 13 years of school education equivalent to a Quebec Diploma of College Studies. For details on country-specific requirements, click here

French Proficiency International Students

As a part of their admission process, non-Francophone applicants (someone whose education was in a language other than French) must take a French proficiency test - Test de français international (TFI).

The minimally required level of French proficiency varies from program to program. The TFI scores will determine whether the applicant is required to take French language classes in addition to other qualifying courses. The university offers French-language services to its students.

  • A Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ), from the Ministry of immigration for programs longer than 6 months
  • Apply for a study permit and visa
  • Quebec's immigration law requires proof of valid health and hospitalization insurance.

Admissions at Laval University are highly selective. The education is conducted primarily in French, with some English references. Hence, applicants are encouraged to prove their proficiency in these languages – specifically French, to be considered for admission.
